New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? | 1If any of you has a dispute against another, how dare you take it to court before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? |
Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? | 2Or don't you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the trivial cases? |
Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? | 3Don't you know that we will judge angels--how much more matters of this life? |
If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge? | 4So if you have such matters, do you appoint as your judges those who have no standing in the church? |
I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? | 5I say this to your shame! Can it be that there is not one wise person among you who is able to arbitrate between fellow believers? |
But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! | 6Instead, brother goes to court against brother, and that before unbelievers! |
Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? | 7As it is, to have legal disputes against one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? |
No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! | 8Instead, you yourselves do wrong and cheat--and you do this to brothers and sisters! |
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, | 9Don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males, |
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. | 10no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God's kingdom. |
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. | 11And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. |
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. | 12"Everything is permissible for me," but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me," but I will not be mastered by anything. |
Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. | 13"Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food," and God will do away with both of them. However, the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. |
And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. | 14God raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. |
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! | 15Don't you know that your bodies are a part of Christ's body? So should I take a part of Christ's body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not! |
Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” | 16Don't you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh. |
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. | 17But anyone joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. |
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. | 18Flee sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. |
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? | 19Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, |
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. | 20for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body. |
