Parallel Chapters The Day of the Lord
(Zephaniah 1:7-18; 2 Peter 3:8-13) | 1Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, | 1Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. | 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. | 1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. | 1About the times and the seasons: Brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you. |
| 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. | 2For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. | 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. | 2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. | 2For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. |
| 3While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. | 3While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. | 3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. | 3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. | 3When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. |
| 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. | 4But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. | 4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; | 4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. | 4But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief. |
| 5You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. | 5For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. | 5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; | 5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. | 5For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. |
| 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. | 6So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. | 6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. | 6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. | 6So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious. |
| 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. | 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. | 7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. | 7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. | 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. |
| 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. | 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. | 8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. | 8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. | 8But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation. |
| 9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. | 9For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, | 9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, | 9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, | 9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. | 10who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. | 10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. | 10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. | 10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. |
| 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. | 11Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. | 11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. | 11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. | 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing. |
Christian Living | 12Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. | 12We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, | 12But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, | 12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; | 12Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, |
| 13Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. | 13and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. | 13and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. | 13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. | 13and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. |
