Parallel Chapters Hosea Announces Israel's Punishment 1Do not rejoice, Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing floor. | 1Rejoice not, O Israel! Exult not like the peoples; for you have played the whore, forsaking your God. You have loved a prostitute’s wages on all threshing floors. | 1Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation like the nations! For you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved harlots' earnings on every threshing floor. | 1Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor. | 1Israel, do not rejoice jubilantly as the nations do, for you have acted promiscuously, leaving your God. You have loved the wages of a prostitute on every grain-threshing floor. |
Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people; the new wine will fail them. | 2Threshing floor and wine vat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them. | 2Threshing floor and wine press will not feed them, And the new wine will fail them. | 2The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her. | 2Threshing floor and wine vat will not sustain them, and the new wine will fail them. |

Instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria. |
They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, nor will their sacrifices please him. Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat them will be unclean. This food will be for themselves; it will not come into the temple of the LORD. | 4They shall not pour drink offerings of wine to the LORD, and their sacrifices shall not please him. It shall be like mourners’ bread to them; all who eat of it shall be defiled; for their bread shall be for their hunger only; it shall not come to the house of the LORD. | 4They will not pour out drink offerings of wine to the LORD, Their sacrifices will not please Him. Their bread will be like mourners' bread; All who eat of it will be defiled, For their bread will be for themselves alone; It will not enter the house of the LORD. | 4They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD. | 4They will not pour out their wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him. Their food will be like the bread of mourners; all who eat it become defiled. For their bread will be for their appetites alone; it will not enter the house of the LORD. |
What will you do on the day of your appointed festivals, on the feast days of the LORD? | 5What will you do on the day of the appointed festival, and on the day of the feast of the LORD? | 5What will you do on the day of the appointed festival And on the day of the feast of the LORD? | 5What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD? | 5What will you do on a festival day, on the day of the LORD's feast? |
Even if they escape from destruction, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Their treasures of silver will be taken over by briers, and thorns will overrun their tents. | 6For behold, they are going away from destruction; but Egypt shall gather them; Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess their precious things of silver; thorns shall be in their tents. | 6For behold, they will go because of destruction; Egypt will gather them up, Memphis will bury them. Weeds will take over their treasures of silver; Thorns will be in their tents. | 6For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles. | 6For even if they flee from devastation, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Thistles will take possession of their precious silver; thorns will invade their tents. |
The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac. | 7The days of punishment have come; the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a fool; the man of the spirit is mad, because of your great iniquity and great hatred. | 7The days of punishment have come, The days of retribution have come; Let Israel know this! The prophet is a fool, The inspired man is demented, Because of the grossness of your iniquity, And because your hostility is so great. | 7The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred. | 7The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel recognize it! The prophet is a fool, and the inspired man is insane, because of the magnitude of your guilt and hostility. |
The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God. | 8The prophet is the watchman of Ephraim with my God; yet a fowler’s snare is on all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God. | 8Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet; Yet the snare of a bird catcher is in all his ways, And there is only hostility in the house of his God. | 8The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God. | 8Ephraim's watchman is with my God. The prophet encounters a fowler's snare on all his ways. Hostility is in the house of his God! |
They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins. | 9They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah: he will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins. | 9They have gone deep in depravity As in the days of Gibeah; He will remember their iniquity, He will punish their sins. | 9They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins. | 9They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their guilt; He will punish their sins. |
"When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree. But when they came to Baal Peor, they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol and became as vile as the thing they loved. | 10Like grapes in the wilderness, I found Israel. Like the first fruit on the fig tree in its first season, I saw your fathers. But they came to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to the thing of shame, and became detestable like the thing they loved. | 10I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your forefathers as the earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season. But they came to Baal-peor and devoted themselves to shame, And they became as detestable as that which they loved. | 10I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved. | 10I discovered Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers like the first fruit of the fig tree in its first season. But they went to Baal-peor, consecrated themselves to Shame, and became detestable, like the thing they loved. |

Even if they rear children, I will bereave them of every one. Woe to them when I turn away from them! | 12Even if they bring up children, I will bereave them till none is left. Woe to them when I depart from them! | 12Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them until not a man is left. Yes, woe to them indeed when I depart from them! | 12Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them! | 12Even if they raise children, I will bereave them of each one. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! |
I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place. But Ephraim will bring out their children to the slayer." | 13Ephraim, as I have seen, was like a young palm planted in a meadow; but Ephraim must lead his children out to slaughter. | 13Ephraim, as I have seen, Is planted in a pleasant meadow like Tyre; But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter. | 13Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. | 13I have seen Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a meadow, so Ephraim will bring out his children to the executioner. |
Give them, LORD-- what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry. | 14Give them, O LORD— what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. | 14Give them, O LORD-- what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. | 14Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. | 14Give them, LORD-- What should You give? Give them a womb that miscarries and breasts that are dry! |

I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious. | 15Every evil of theirs is in Gilgal; there I began to hate them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house. I will love them no more; all their princes are rebels. | 15All their evil is at Gilgal; Indeed, I came to hate them there! Even though they give birth, I will put their beloved children to death. | 16Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up, They will bear no fruit. Even though they bear children, I will slay the precious ones of their womb. | 16Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. | 16Ephraim is struck down; their roots are withered; they cannot bear fruit. Even if they bear children, I will kill the precious offspring of their wombs. |
My God will reject them because they have not obeyed him; they will be wanderers among the nations. | 17My God will reject them because they have not listened to him; they shall be wanderers among the nations. | 17My God will cast them away Because they have not listened to Him; And they will be wanderers among the nations. | 17My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations. | 17My God will reject them because they have not listened to Him; they will become wanderers among the nations. |
