How to keep our names in God's book?
How can we ensure our names remain in God's "book" today?

The Promise and the Warning

“ ‘He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments, and I will never blot his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.’ ” (Revelation 3:5)

What the Book Is

• An actual register kept by God of all who are saved (Exodus 32:32–33; Daniel 12:1; Philippians 4:3; Revelation 20:15; 21:27).

• Entry is granted by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9; John 1:12).

• Staying in the Book is linked in Scripture with persevering faith—“he who overcomes.”

Securing Our Place: God’s Part

• Jesus paid the full price for sin once for all (Hebrews 10:10–14).

• The Holy Spirit seals every true believer “for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30).

• God’s power guards our salvation as we trust Him (1 Peter 1:5).

Walking in Assurance: Our Part

The New Testament consistently calls believers to active, ongoing faith. The following responses keep us aligned with God’s preserving grace:

1. Repent and Believe

• Initial turning from sin and continual heart-turning toward Christ (Mark 1:15; 1 John 1:9).

2. Abide in Christ

• “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you” (John 15:4).

• Regular time in Scripture and prayer deepens fellowship (Psalm 119:11; Colossians 4:2).

3. Obey His Commands

• “The one who keeps His commandments remains in Him” (1 John 3:24).

• Obedience demonstrates genuine faith (James 2:17).

4. Walk by the Spirit

• Yield daily to the Spirit’s leading (Galatians 5:16–25).

• Spiritual fruit is evidence of life in Christ.

5. Engage the Body of Christ

• Mutual encouragement prevents drifting (Hebrews 10:24–25).

• Accountability strengthens perseverance (Hebrews 3:12–14).

6. Endure to the End

• “We are of His house if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence” (Hebrews 3:6).

• Overcoming faith resists apostasy and complacency (Matthew 24:12–13).

Warnings to Heed

• Deliberate, ongoing unbelief leads to erasure from the Book (Exodus 32:33).

• Casual profession without obedience is self-deception (Matthew 7:21–23).

• Lukewarmness invites Christ’s discipline (Revelation 3:16, 19).

Encouragement for the Faithful

• God “is able to keep you from stumbling” (Jude 24).

• Nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38–39).

• “I have written these things to you who believe… so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).

Living It Out Today

• Treasure the gospel daily; preach it to yourself.

• Quickly confess sin and receive cleansing.

• Nourish your soul with Scripture; let it shape thoughts and choices.

• Stay close to believers who stir up love and good deeds.

• Serve Christ boldly, anticipating the day He confesses your name before the Father.

Remaining in God’s Book is ultimately His preserving work, experienced through a persevering, obedient, Spirit-empowered faith that fixes its eyes on Jesus until we see Him face to face.
