How to prepare for God's work?
In what ways can we prepare for God's work in our lives?

Joshua 3:5—The Call to Get Ready

“Then Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.’”

Why Consecration Matters

God’s wonders were certain; the people’s readiness was the variable. The same pattern runs through Scripture:

Exodus 19:10–11 – Israel washed their clothes before meeting God at Sinai.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humbling, praying, and turning from sin invite God’s healing work.

2 Timothy 2:21 – A clean vessel is “useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”

Preparing Through Purity—Putting Away Sin

• Self-examination: “Search me, O God… and lead me” (Psalm 139:23-24).

• Repentance: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive” (1 John 1:9).

• Separation: anything that dulls devotion—habits, media, relationships—gets surrendered.

Preparing Through Expectant Faith

• Joshua said “tomorrow.” God-centered anticipation fuels obedience today (Hebrews 11:6).

• Remember past deliverances (Psalm 77:11-14) to strengthen present expectation.

• Speak faith: align words with God’s promises, not fears (Mark 11:22-24).

Preparing Through Obedient Action

• Step where the ark leads (Joshua 3:6): move when God says move.

• Obedience precedes understanding (John 2:5). The waters part for walkers, not sitters.

• Daily yield your schedule—“Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8).

Preparing Through Spiritual Disciplines

• Prayer – persistent, united, expectant (Acts 1:14).

• Word – meditate day and night (Joshua 1:8); Scripture renews the mind (Romans 12:2).

• Worship – enthrone Him; He inhabits praise (Psalm 22:3).

• Fasting – clears the static, heightens sensitivity (Matthew 6:16-18).

Preparing Through Community Alignment

• Unified people see uncommon wonders (Acts 2:1-4).

• Mutual encouragement prevents hard hearts (Hebrews 3:13).

• Submit to godly leadership, as Israel did with Joshua (Hebrews 13:17).

Living Ready Every Day—Moving Forward with Confidence

• Stay clean – quick repentance keeps channels open.

• Stay expectant – “Watch, because you do not know the hour” (Matthew 24:42-44).

• Stay available – “Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning” (Luke 12:35).

• Stay dependent – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Consecrate today, anticipate tomorrow—God still delights to “do wonders among you.”
