In the context of biblical teachings, the concept of "excludes" often pertains to the idea of separation, distinction, or setting apart, particularly in terms of holiness, community, and divine standards. The Bible frequently addresses the theme of exclusion in various contexts, including moral, spiritual, and communal aspects.

Exclusion from the Kingdom of God

The New Testament provides several passages where exclusion from the Kingdom of God is discussed. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 , the Apostle Paul writes, "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God." This passage highlights behaviors and lifestyles that are inconsistent with the values of God's kingdom, leading to exclusion from it.

Exclusion from the Community of Believers

In the early church, maintaining the purity and holiness of the community was of utmost importance. In Matthew 18:15-17 , Jesus provides instructions for dealing with sin within the church: "If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector." This process of church discipline underscores the necessity of excluding unrepentant individuals to preserve the integrity of the faith community.

Exclusion in the Old Testament

The Old Testament also contains numerous examples of exclusion, particularly in the context of the Israelite community. Leviticus 20:23-24 states, "You must not walk in the customs of the nations I am driving out before you, because they did all these things, and I abhorred them. But I have said to you: 'You will inherit their land, and I will give it to you as a possession, a land flowing with milk and honey.' I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples." Here, God commands the Israelites to exclude themselves from the practices of surrounding nations to maintain their distinct identity as His chosen people.

Exclusion and Holiness

The concept of exclusion is closely tied to the biblical call to holiness. In 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 , Paul exhorts believers, "Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. And I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." This call to separation emphasizes the need for believers to exclude themselves from worldly influences that compromise their relationship with God.

Exclusion and Redemption

While the Bible speaks of exclusion, it also offers hope for redemption and inclusion through repentance and faith. In Ephesians 2:12-13 , Paul reminds the Gentile believers, "At that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ." This passage highlights the transformative power of Christ's sacrifice, which overcomes exclusion and brings believers into the family of God.

In summary, the theme of exclusion in the Bible serves as a reminder of the importance of holiness, community integrity, and the transformative power of redemption through Jesus Christ.
