Saints' Response: Haste To

The anticipation of Christ's return is not merely a passive waiting but an active hastening. Believers are called to live in a manner that reflects their hope and readiness for this glorious event. In 2 Peter 3:11-12 , the apostle Peter exhorts the saints: "Since everything will be dissolved in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat."

This hastening involves a life of holiness, evangelism, and prayer. The saints are encouraged to spread the gospel, as Jesus instructed in Matthew 28:19-20 : "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Living in Expectation

The expectation of Christ's return influences the daily lives of believers, urging them to remain vigilant and faithful. In Titus 2:11-13 , Paul writes: "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men. It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age, as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ."

The saints' haste to the Second Coming is marked by a longing for the fulfillment of God's promises and the ultimate redemption of creation. This anticipation is a source of comfort and encouragement, as expressed in Philippians 3:20-21 : "But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body."
