A Call to Repentance
1There were present at the same time, some that told Him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye think that these were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things?
3I tell you, No: but, unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, do ye think that they were sinners above all the inhabitants in Jerusalem?
5I tell you, No: but, unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
6And He spake this parable, A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, but found none.
7And he said to the vine-dresser, behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and find none: cut it down, why should it cumber the ground?
8And he said to him, Sir, let it alone this year also, till I dig about it, and lay dung to it:
9then perhaps it may bear fruit; if not, afterwards cut it down.
Jesus Heals a Disabled Woman
10And when He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath-day,
11there was a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and utterly unable to lift herself upright.
12And when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13And He laid his hands upon her; and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14But the ruler of the synagogue, being provoked that Jesus had wrought a cure on the sabbath-day, said to the people, There are six days in which ye ought to work; on these therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath-day.
15The Lord therefore answered him and said, Thou hypocrite, does not any of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall and lead him away to watering?
16And might not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day?
17Upon his saying this, all his adversaries were ashamed: but the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
(Matthew 13:31–32; Mark 4:30–34)
18Then said He, To what is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?
19It is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew, and became a great tree, and the birds of the air lodged in it's boughs.
The Parable of the Leaven
(Matthew 13:33)
20And again He said, To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
21It is like leaven, which a woman took and put into three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
The Narrow Door
(Matthew 7:13–14)
22And he went through the cities and villages teaching, as He journeyed towards Jerusalem.
23And one said to Him, Lord, are there but few that shall be saved?
24But He said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate; for I tell you, many will desire to enter in, and shall not be able.
25When the master of the house shall have risen up and shut the door, and ye begin to stand without and knock at the door saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and He shall answer and say to you, I know you not, whence ye are:
26then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drank in thy presence,
27and thou hast taught in our streets, But He will say, I tell you, I know you not, whence ye are; depart from me all ye workers of iniquity:
28and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves shut out.
29Yea they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
30And behold, there are some last who shall be first, and there are first that shall be last.
Lament over Jerusalem
(Matthew 23:37–39)
31At the same time came some of the pharisees, and said to Him, Go out and depart hence, for Herod intends to kill thee.
32And He said to them, Go, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and to-morrow; and in a little while I am to be perfected:
33but I must procede to-day and to-morrow and the following; for it cannot be supposed that a prophet should be cut off but in Jerusalem.
34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and ye would not?
35Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and I assure you ye shall not see me again till the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
