The Death of Moses

1  וַיַּ֨עַל (And went up) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) מֵֽעַרְבֹ֤ת (from the plains) מוֹאָב֙ (of Moab) אֶל־ (to) הַ֣ר (Mount) נְב֔וֹ (Nebo), רֹ֚אשׁ (to the top) הַפִּסְגָּ֔ה (of Pisgah), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) עַל־ (across) פְּנֵ֣י (from) יְרֵח֑וֹ (Jericho). וַיַּרְאֵ֨הוּ (And showed him) יְהוָ֧ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֛רֶץ (the land) אֶת־ (-) הַגִּלְעָ֖ד (of Gilead), עַד־ (as far as) דָּֽן׃ (Dan), 2  וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) נַפְתָּלִ֔י (Naphtali), וְאֶת־ (and) אֶ֥רֶץ (the land) אֶפְרַ֖יִם (of Ephraim), וּמְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (and Manasseh), וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah), עַ֖ד (as far as) הַיָּ֥ם (the Sea) הָאַחֲרֽוֹן׃ (Western), 3  וְאֶת־ (and) הַנֶּ֗גֶב (the Negev), וְֽאֶת־ (and) הַכִּכָּ֞ר (the plain) בִּקְעַ֧ת (of the Valley) יְרֵח֛וֹ (of Jericho), עִ֥יר (the City) הַתְּמָרִ֖ים (of Palms)) עַד־ (as far as) צֹֽעַר׃ (Zoar).

4  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֵלָ֗יו (to him), זֹ֤את (This is) הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) נִ֠שְׁבַּעְתִּי (I swore to give) לְאַבְרָהָ֨ם (to Abraham), לְיִצְחָ֤ק (to Isaac), וּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙ (and to Jacob), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), לְזַרְעֲךָ֖ (To your seed) אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה (I will give it). הֶרְאִיתִ֣יךָ (I have caused you to see it) בְעֵינֶ֔יךָ (with your eyes), וְשָׁ֖מָּה (and there) לֹ֥א (not) תַעֲבֹֽר׃ (you shall pass over).

5  וַיָּ֨מָת (And died) שָׁ֜ם (there) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) עֶֽבֶד־ (the servant) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) מוֹאָ֖ב (of Moab), עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the word) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 6  וַיִּקְבֹּ֨ר (And He buried) אֹת֤וֹ (him) בַגַּיְ֙ (in a valley) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מוֹאָ֔ב (of Moab), מ֖וּל (opposite) בֵּ֣ית (Beth-) פְּע֑וֹר (peor); וְלֹֽא־ (not) יָדַ֥ע (knows) אִישׁ֙ (man) אֶת־ (-) קְבֻ֣רָת֔וֹ (his grave) עַ֖ד (to) הַיּ֥וֹם (the day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

7  וּמֹשֶׁ֗ה (And Moses) בֶּן־ (was a son) מֵאָ֧ה (of a hundred) וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים (and twenty) שָׁנָ֖ה (years) בְּמֹת֑וֹ (when he died); לֹֽא־ (not) כָהֲתָ֥ה (were dim) עֵינ֖וֹ (his eyes), וְלֹא־ (and not) נָ֥ס (had fled) לֵחֹֽה׃ (his vigor). 8  וַיִּבְכּוּ֩ (And wept) בְנֵ֨י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (for) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) בְּעַֽרְבֹ֥ת (in the plains) מוֹאָ֖ב (of Moab) שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים (thirty) י֑וֹם (days); וַֽיִּתְּמ֔וּ (and ended) יְמֵ֥י (the days) בְכִ֖י (of weeping) אֵ֥בֶל (and mourning for) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

9  וִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ (And Joshua) בִּן־ (son) נ֗וּן (of Nun) מָלֵא֙ (was full) ר֣וּחַ (of the spirit) חָכְמָ֔ה (of wisdom), כִּֽי־ (for) סָמַ֥ךְ (had laid) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) יָדָ֖יו (his hands) עָלָ֑יו (on him). וַיִּשְׁמְע֨וּ (And listened) אֵלָ֤יו (to him) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ (and did) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses). 10  וְלֹֽא־ (And not) קָ֨ם (there has arisen) נָבִ֥יא (a prophet) ע֛וֹד (since that time) בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (in Israel) כְּמֹשֶׁ֑ה (like Moses), אֲשֶׁר֙ (whom) יְדָע֣וֹ (knew) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) פָּנִ֖ים (face) אֶל־ (to) פָּנִֽים׃ (face), 11  לְכָל־ (in all) הָ֨אֹת֜וֹת (the signs) וְהַמּוֹפְתִ֗ים (and the wonders) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) שְׁלָחוֹ֙ (sent him) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת (to do) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt) לְפַרְעֹ֥ה (before Pharaoh), וּלְכָל־ (and before all) עֲבָדָ֖יו (his servants), וּלְכָל־ (and in all) אַרְצֽוֹ׃ (his land), 12  וּלְכֹל֙ (and by all) הַיָּ֣ד (the power) הַחֲזָקָ֔ה (mighty) וּלְכֹ֖ל (and all) הַמּוֹרָ֣א (the terror) הַגָּד֑וֹל (great), אֲשֶׁר֙ (which) עָשָׂ֣ה (performed) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) לְעֵינֵ֖י (in the eyes) כָּל־ (of all) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).
