Praise to the Creator
(Psalm 148:1–14)
רַנְּנ֣וּ (Give a ringing cry), צַ֭דִּיקִים (O righteous ones), בַּֽיהוָ֑ה (in YHWH),
לַ֝יְשָׁרִ֗ים (for the upright) נָאוָ֥ה (beautiful is) תְהִלָּֽה׃ (the praise).
2 הוֹד֣וּ (Give thanks) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) בְּכִנּ֑וֹר (with the harp);
בְּנֵ֥בֶל (with an instrument) עָ֝שׂ֗וֹר (of ten strings) זַמְּרוּ־ (make music) לֽוֹ׃ (to Him).
3 שִֽׁירוּ־ (Sing) ל֭וֹ (to Him) שִׁ֣יר (a song) חָדָ֑שׁ (new);
הֵיטִ֥יבוּ (skillfully) נַ֝גֵּ֗ן (play) בִּתְרוּעָֽה׃ (with a shout of joy).
4 כִּֽי־ (For) יָשָׁ֥ר (straight is) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH),
וְכָל־ (and all) מַ֝עֲשֵׂ֗הוּ (His work) בֶּאֱמוּנָֽה׃ (is trustworthy).
5 אֹ֭הֵב (He loves) צְדָקָ֣ה (righteousness) וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט (and justice);
חֶ֥סֶד (the loving devotion) יְ֝הוָ֗ה (of YHWH) מָלְאָ֥ה (is full of) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).
6 בִּדְבַ֣ר (By the word) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH) שָׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) נַעֲשׂ֑וּ (were made),
וּבְר֥וּחַ (and by the breath) פִּ֝֗יו (of His mouth) כָּל־ (all) צְבָאָֽם׃ (their host).
7 כֹּנֵ֣ס (He gathers together) כַּ֭נֵּד (as a heap) מֵ֣י (the waters) הַיָּ֑ם (of the sea);
נֹתֵ֖ן (He lays up) בְּאֹצָר֣וֹת (in storehouses) תְּהוֹמֽוֹת׃ (the depths).
8 יִֽירְא֣וּ (Let them be afraid) מֵ֭יְהוָה (of YHWH) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth);
מִמֶּ֥נּוּ (of Him) יָ֝ג֗וּרוּ (let stand in awe) כָּל־ (all) יֹשְׁבֵ֥י (the dwellers) תֵבֵֽל׃ (of the world).
9 כִּ֤י (For) ה֣וּא (He) אָמַ֣ר (has spoken) וַיֶּ֑הִי (and it came to pass),
הֽוּא־ (He) צִ֝וָּ֗ה (has commanded) וַֽיַּעֲמֹֽד׃ (and it stood firm).
10 יְֽהוָ֗ה (YHWH) הֵפִ֥יר (breaks apart) עֲצַת־ (the counsel) גּוֹיִ֑ם (of nations);
הֵ֝נִ֗יא (He has diasllowed) מַחְשְׁב֥וֹת (the plans) עַמִּֽים׃ (of the peoples).
11 עֲצַ֣ת (The counsel) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever) תַּעֲמֹ֑ד (stands),
מַחְשְׁב֥וֹת (the plans) לִ֝בּ֗וֹ (of His heart) לְדֹ֣ר (for generation) וָדֹֽר׃ (and generation).
12 אַשְׁרֵ֣י (Blessed is) הַ֭גּוֹי (the nation) אֲשֶׁר־ (for whom) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֑יו (is its God)—
הָעָ֓ם׀ (the people) בָּחַ֖ר (He has chosen) לְנַחֲלָ֣ה (as the inheritance) לֽוֹ׃ (for Him).
13 מִ֭שָּׁמַיִם (From the heavens) הִבִּ֣יט (looks) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH);
רָ֝אָ֗ה (He sees) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) הָאָדָֽם׃ (of man).
14 מִֽמְּכוֹן־ (From the fixed place) שִׁבְתּ֥וֹ (of His sitting)
הִשְׁגִּ֑יחַ (He gazes) אֶ֖ל (toward) כָּל־ (all) יֹשְׁבֵ֣י (those dwelling on) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).
15 הַיֹּצֵ֣ר (He fashions) יַ֣חַד (together) לִבָּ֑ם (their hearts);
הַ֝מֵּבִ֗ין (He attends) אֶל־ (to) כָּל־ (all) מַעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם׃ (their works).
16 אֵֽין־ (No) הַ֭מֶּלֶךְ (king) נוֹשָׁ֣ע (is saved) בְּרָב־ (by the abundance) חָ֑יִל (of his strength);
גִּ֝בּ֗וֹר (a mighty man) לֹֽא־ (not) יִנָּצֵ֥ל (is delivered) בְּרָב־ (by the abundance) כֹּֽחַ׃ (of his power).
17 שֶׁ֣קֶר (Is a false thing) הַ֭סּוּס (is his horse) לִתְשׁוּעָ֑ה (for salvation),
וּבְרֹ֥ב (and in the abundance) חֵ֝יל֗וֹ (of its strength) לֹ֣א (not) יְמַלֵּֽט׃ (can it provide escape).
18 הִנֵּ֤ה (Behold), עֵ֣ין (the eye) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH) אֶל־ (is toward) יְרֵאָ֑יו (those who fear Him)—
לַֽמְיַחֲלִ֥ים (to those waiting) לְחַסְדּֽוֹ׃ (on His loving devotion),
19 לְהַצִּ֣יל (to snatch away) מִמָּ֣וֶת (from death) נַפְשָׁ֑ם (their soul),
וּ֝לְחַיּוֹתָ֗ם (and to keep them alive) בָּרָעָֽב׃ (in famine).
20 נַ֭פְשֵׁנוּ (Our soul) חִכְּתָ֣ה (waits) לַֽיהוָ֑ה (for YHWH);
עֶזְרֵ֖נוּ (our help) וּמָגִנֵּ֣נוּ (and our shield) הֽוּא׃ (He is).
21 כִּי־ (For) ב֭וֹ (in Him) יִשְׂמַ֣ח (shall rejoice) לִבֵּ֑נוּ (our heart)
כִּ֤י (because) בְשֵׁ֖ם (in the name) קָדְשׁ֣וֹ (of His holiness) בָטָֽחְנוּ׃ (we have trusted).
22 יְהִֽי־ (Let be) חַסְדְּךָ֣ (Your loving devotion), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), עָלֵ֑ינוּ (upon us),
כַּ֝אֲשֶׁ֗ר (as) יִחַ֥לְנוּ (we do wait) לָֽךְ׃ (for You).
