The Vision of the Four Chariots

1  וָאָשֻׁ֗ב (And I turned), וָאֶשָּׂ֤א (and lifted up) עֵינַי֙ (my eyes), וָֽאֶרְאֶ֔ה (and I looked), וְהִנֵּ֨ה (and behold), אַרְבַּ֤ע (four) מַרְכָּבוֹת֙ (chariots) יֹֽצְא֔וֹת (were coming forth) מִבֵּ֖ין (from between) שְׁנֵ֣י (two) הֶֽהָרִ֑ים (mountains); וְהֶהָרִ֖ים (and the mountains were) הָרֵ֥י (mountains) נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ (of bronze). 2  בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֥ה (With the chariot) הָרִֽאשֹׁנָ֖ה (first) סוּסִ֣ים (were horses); אֲדֻמִּ֑ים (red) וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָ֥ה (and with the chariot) הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית (second) סוּסִ֥ים (horses); שְׁחֹרִֽים׃ (black). 3  וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָ֥ה (And with the chariot) הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖ית (third) סוּסִ֣ים (horses); לְבָנִ֑ים (white) וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָה֙ (and with the chariot) הָרְבִעִ֔ית (fourth) סוּסִ֥ים (horses) בְּרֻדִּ֖ים (spotted) אֲמֻצִּֽים׃ (strong).

4  וָאַ֙עַן֙ (And I answered) וָֽאֹמַ֔ר (and said) אֶל־ (to) הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ (the angel) הַדֹּבֵ֣ר (speaking) בִּ֑י (with me) מָה־ (What are) אֵ֖לֶּה (these), אֲדֹנִֽי׃ (my lord)?

5  וַיַּ֥עַן (And answered) הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ (the angel) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and said) אֵלָ֑י (to me) אֵ֗לֶּה (These are) אַרְבַּע֙ (the four) רֻח֣וֹת (spirits) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (of the heavens), יוֹצְא֕וֹת (going forth) מֵֽהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב (from the standing) עַל־ (next to) אֲד֥וֹן (the Lord) כָּל־ (of all) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth). 6  אֲשֶׁר־ (The one) בָּ֞הּ (with) הַסּוּסִ֣ים (the horses) הַשְּׁחֹרִ֗ים (the black) יֹֽצְאִים֙ (is going forth) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land); צָפ֔וֹן (of the north) וְהַלְּבָנִ֔ים (and the white ones) יָצְא֖וּ (are going forth) אֶל־ (to) אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם (the west) וְהַ֨בְּרֻדִּ֔ים (and the spotted ones) יָצְא֖וּ (are going forth) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֥רֶץ (the land) הַתֵּימָֽן׃ (of the south).

7  וְהָאֲמֻצִּ֣ים (And the strong ones) יָצְא֗וּ (went forth), וַיְבַקְשׁוּ֙ (and they sought) לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ (to go about) לְהִתְהַלֵּ֣ך (going to and fro) בָּאָ֔רֶץ (on the earth). וַיֹּ֕אמֶר (And He said), לְכ֖וּ (Go), הִתְהַלְּכ֣וּ (walk up and down) בָאָ֑רֶץ (on the earth) וַתִּתְהַלַּ֖כְנָה (and they went to and fro) בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ (on the earth).

8  וַיַּזְעֵ֣ק (And He called) אֹתִ֔י (to me) וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (and spoke) אֵלַ֖י (to me) לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), רְאֵ֗ה (See), הַיּֽוֹצְאִים֙ (those going forth) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) צָפ֔וֹן (of the north) הֵנִ֥יחוּ (have given rest) אֶת־ (-) רוּחִ֖י (to My Spirit) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) צָפֽוֹן׃ס (of the north).

The Crown and the Temple

9  וַיְהִ֥י (And came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 10  לָק֙וֹחַ֙ (Take) מֵאֵ֣ת (from) הַגּוֹלָ֔ה (the captive), מֵחֶלְדַּ֕י (from Heldai) וּמֵאֵ֥ת (and from) טוֹבִיָּ֖ה (Tobiah), וּמֵאֵ֣ת (and from) יְדַֽעְיָ֑ה (Jedaiah), וּבָאתָ֤ (and will come) אַתָּה֙ (you) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day), הַה֔וּא (that) וּבָ֗אתָ (and go into) בֵּ֚ית (the house) יֹאשִׁיָּ֣ה (of Josiah) בֶן־ (son) צְפַנְיָ֔ה (of Zephaniah); אֲשֶׁר־ (who) בָּ֖אוּ (have come) מִבָּבֶֽל׃ (from Babylon). 11  וְלָקַחְתָּ֥ (And you shall take) כֶֽסֶף־ (silver) וְזָהָ֖ב (and gold), וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ (and you shall make) עֲטָר֑וֹת (crowns), וְשַׂמְתָּ֗ (and you shall set them) בְּרֹ֛אשׁ (on the head) יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ (of Joshua) בֶּן־ (son) יְהוֹצָדָ֖ק (of Jehozadak), הַכֹּהֵ֥ן (the priest); הַגָּדֽוֹל׃ (high).

12  וְאָמַרְתָּ֤ (And you will speak) אֵלָיו֙ (to him) לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), כֹּ֥ה (thus) אָמַ֛ר (says) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), הִנֵּה־ (Behold,) אִ֞ישׁ (a man) צֶ֤מַח (Branch); שְׁמוֹ֙ (is his name) וּמִתַּחְתָּ֣יו (and from underneath him), יִצְמָ֔ח (he will branch forth) וּבָנָ֖ה (and will build) אֶת־ (-) הֵיכַ֥ל (the temple) יְהוָֽהּ׃ (of YHWH). 13  וְ֠הוּא (And he) יִבְנֶ֞ה (will build) אֶת־ (-) הֵיכַ֤ל (the temple) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH); וְהֽוּא־ (and it is he) יִשָּׂ֣א (who will bear) ה֔וֹד (the splendor), וְיָשַׁ֥ב (and he hall sit) וּמָשַׁ֖ל (and rule) עַל־ (upon) כִּסְא֑וֹ (his throne); וְהָיָ֤ה (And He will be) כֹהֵן֙ (a priest) עַל־ (on) כִּסְא֔וֹ (His throne), וַעֲצַ֣ת (and a counsel) שָׁל֔וֹם (of peace) תִּהְיֶ֖ה (will be) בֵּ֥ין (between) שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃ (the two of them).

14  וְהָעֲטָרֹ֗ת (And the crowns) תִּֽהְיֶה֙ (will be) לְחֵ֙לֶם֙ (for Helem), וּלְטוֹבִיָּ֣ה (and Tobiah), וְלִידַֽעְיָ֔ה (and Jedaiah), וּלְחֵ֖ן (and Hen) בֶּן־ (son) צְפַנְיָ֑ה (of Zephaniah), לְזִכָּר֖וֹן (as a memorial) בְּהֵיכַ֥ל (in the temple) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 15  וּרְחוֹקִ֣ים׀ (And the far off) יָבֹ֗אוּ (will come) וּבָנוּ֙ (and do building work) בְּהֵיכַ֣ל (on the temple) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם (and you⁺ will know) כִּֽי־ (that) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) שְׁלָחַ֣נִי (has sent Me) אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם (to you⁺) וְהָיָה֙ (and it will come to pass), אִם־ (if) שָׁמ֣וֹעַ (listening) תִּשְׁמְע֔וּן (you⁺ would listen) בְּק֖וֹל (to the voice) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ס (your⁺ God).
