Berean Study BibleEnglish Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Moses,1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘When someone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the value of persons,2“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, If anyone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the valuation of persons,
if the valuation concerns a male from twenty to sixty years of age, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel.3then the valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.
Or if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels.4If the person is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels.
And if the person is from five to twenty years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.5If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
Now if the person is from one month to five years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be five shekels of silver, and for the female three shekels of silver.6If the person is from a month old up to five years old, the valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female the valuation shall be three shekels of silver.
And if the person is sixty years of age or older, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female.7And if the person is sixty years old or over, then the valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
But if the one making the vow is too poor to pay the valuation, he is to present the person before the priest, who shall set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford.8And if someone is too poor to pay the valuation, then he shall be made to stand before the priest, and the priest shall value him; the priest shall value him according to what the vower can afford.
If he vows an animal that may be brought as an offering to the LORD, any such animal given to the LORD shall be holy.9“If the vow is an animal that may be offered as an offering to the LORD, all of it that he gives to the LORD is holy.
He must not replace it or exchange it, either good for bad or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy.10He shall not exchange it or make a substitute for it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he does in fact substitute one animal for another, then both it and the substitute shall be holy.
But if the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the LORD, the animal must be presented before the priest.11And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the LORD, then he shall stand the animal before the priest,
The priest shall set its value, whether high or low; as the priest values it, the price will be set.12and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be.
If, however, the owner decides to redeem the animal, he must add a fifth to its value.13But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation.
Now if a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, then the priest shall value it either as good or bad. The price will stand just as the priest values it.14“When a man dedicates his house as a holy gift to the LORD, the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.
But if he who consecrated his house redeems it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it will belong to him.15And if the donor wishes to redeem his house, he shall add a fifth to the valuation price, and it shall be his.
If a man consecrates to the LORD a parcel of his land, then your valuation shall be proportional to the seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver for every homer of barley seed.16“If a man dedicates to the LORD part of the land that is his possession, then the valuation shall be in proportion to its seed. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your valuation.17If he dedicates his field from the year of jubilee, the valuation shall stand,
But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest is to calculate the price in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your valuation will be reduced.18but if he dedicates his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall calculate the price according to the years that remain until the year of jubilee, and a deduction shall be made from the valuation.
And if the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it shall belong to him.19And if he who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, then he shall add a fifth to its valuation price, and it shall remain his.
If, however, he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.20But if he does not wish to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore.
When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.21But the field, when it is released in the jubilee, shall be a holy gift to the LORD, like a field that has been devoted. The priest shall be in possession of it.
Now if a man consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not a part of his own property,22If he dedicates to the LORD a field that he has bought, which is not a part of his possession,
then the priest shall calculate for him the value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the man shall pay the assessed value on that day as a sacred offering to the LORD.23then the priest shall calculate the amount of the valuation for it up to the year of jubilee, and the man shall give the valuation on that day as a holy gift to the LORD.
In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought—the original owner of the land.24In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to whom the land belongs as a possession.
Every valuation will be according to the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel.25Every valuation shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall make a shekel.
But no one may consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, because a firstborn belongs to the LORD. Whether it is an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s.26“But a firstborn of animals, which as a firstborn belongs to the LORD, no man may dedicate; whether ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s.
But if it is among the unclean animals, then he may redeem it according to your valuation and add a fifth of its value. If it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation.27And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back at the valuation, and add a fifth to it; or, if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at the valuation.
Nothing that a man sets apart to the LORD from all he owns—whether a man, an animal, or his inherited land—can be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD.28“But no devoted thing that a man devotes to the LORD, of anything that he has, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD.
No person set apart for destruction may be ransomed; he must surely be put to death.29No one devoted, who is to be devoted for destruction from mankind, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death.
Thus any tithe from the land, whether from the seed of the land or the fruit of the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.30“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD’s; it is holy to the LORD.
If a man wishes to redeem part of his tithe, he must add a fifth to its value.31If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it.
Every tenth animal from the herd or flock that passes under the shepherd’s rod will be holy to the LORD.32And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman’s staff, shall be holy to the LORD.
He must not inspect whether it is good or bad, and he shall not make any substitution. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute shall become holy; they cannot be redeemed.’ ”33One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”
These are the commandments that the LORD gave to Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai.34These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai.
