For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O God of my praise, be not silent.1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. O God of my praise, Do not be silent!
For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me; they speak against me with lying tongues.2For they have opened the wicked and deceitful mouth against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
They surround me with hateful words and attack me without cause.3They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without cause.
In return for my love they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.4In return for my love they act as my accusers; But I am in prayer.
They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my love.5Thus they have repaid me evil for good And hatred for my love.
Set over him a wicked man; let an accuser stand at his right hand.6Appoint a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayer be regarded as sin.7When he is judged, let him come forth guilty, And let his prayer become sin.
May his days be few; may another take his position.8Let his days be few; Let another take his office.
May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.9Let his children be fatherless And his wife a widow.
May his children wander as beggars, seeking sustenance far from their ruined homes.10Let his children wander about and beg; And let them seek sustenance far from their ruined homes.
May the creditor seize all he owns, and strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.11Let the creditor seize all that he has, And let strangers plunder the product of his labor.
May there be no one to extend kindness to him, and no one to favor his fatherless children.12Let there be none to extend lovingkindness to him, Nor any to be gracious to his fatherless children.
May his descendants be cut off; may their name be blotted out from the next generation.13Let his posterity be cut off; In a following generation let their name be blotted out.
May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, and the sin of his mother never be blotted out.14Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, And do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.
May their sins always remain before the LORD, that He may cut off their memory from the earth.15Let them be before the LORD continually, That He may cut off their memory from the earth;
For he never thought to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy and brokenhearted, even to their death.16Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness, But persecuted the afflicted and needy man, And the despondent in heart, to put them to death.
The cursing that he loved, may it fall on him; the blessing in which he refused to delight, may it be far from him.17He also loved cursing, so it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.
The cursing that he wore like a coat, may it soak into his body like water, and into his bones like oil.18But he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, And it entered into his body like water And like oil into his bones.
May it be like a robe wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him.19Let it be to him as a garment with which he covers himself, And for a belt with which he constantly girds himself.
May this be the LORD’s reward to my accusers, to those who speak evil against me.20Let this be the reward of my accusers from the LORD, And of those who speak evil against my soul.
But You, O GOD, the Lord, deal kindly with me for the sake of Your name; deliver me by the goodness of Your loving devotion.21But You, O GOD, the Lord, deal kindly with me for Your name's sake; Because Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me;
For I am poor and needy; my heart is wounded within me.22For I am afflicted and needy, And my heart is wounded within me.
I am fading away like a lengthening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust.23I am passing like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like the locust.
My knees are weak from fasting, and my body grows lean and gaunt.24My knees are weak from fasting, And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.
I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads.25I also have become a reproach to them; When they see me, they wag their head.
Help me, O LORD my God; save me according to Your loving devotion.26Help me, O LORD my God; Save me according to Your lovingkindness.
Let them know that this is Your hand, that You, O LORD, have done it.27And let them know that this is Your hand; You, LORD, have done it.
Though they curse, You will bless. When they rise up, they will be put to shame, but Your servant will rejoice.28Let them curse, but You bless; When they arise, they shall be ashamed, But Your servant shall be glad.
May my accusers be clothed with disgrace; may they wear their shame like a robe.29Let my accusers be clothed with dishonor, And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
With my mouth I will thank the LORD profusely; I will praise Him in the presence of many.30With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the LORD; And in the midst of many I will praise Him.
For He stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from the condemners of his soul.31For He stands at the right hand of the needy, To save him from those who judge his soul.
