| 1Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you. | 1Now on the topic of times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. |
| 2For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. | 2For you know quite well that the day of the Lord will come in the same way as a thief in the night. |
| 3While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. | 3Now when they are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape. |
| 4But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief. | 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the darkness for the day to overtake you like a thief would. |
| 5For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness. | 5For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness. |
| 6So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober. | 6So then we must not sleep as the rest, but must stay alert and sober. |

| 15Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people. | 15See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all. |
