Berean Study Bible | New Living Translation |
“As for you, O son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. | 1“Son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign LORD: I am your enemy, O Gog, ruler of the nations of Meshech and Tubal. |
I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel. | 2I will turn you around and drive you toward the mountains of Israel, bringing you from the distant north. |
Then I will strike the bow from your left hand and dash down the arrows from your right hand. | 3I will knock the bow from your left hand and the arrows from your right hand, and I will leave you helpless. |
On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of ravenous bird and wild beast. | 4You and your army and your allies will all die on the mountains. I will feed you to the vultures and wild animals. |
You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. | 5You will fall in the open fields, for I have spoken, says the Sovereign LORD. |
I will send fire on Magog and on those who dwell securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD. | 6And I will rain down fire on Magog and on all your allies who live safely on the coasts. Then they will know that I am the LORD. |
So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. | 7“In this way, I will make known my holy name among my people of Israel. I will not let anyone bring shame on it. And the nations, too, will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. |
Yes, it is coming, and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD. This is the day of which I have spoken. | 8That day of judgment will come, says the Sovereign LORD. Everything will happen just as I have declared it. |
Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out, kindle fires, and burn up the weapons—the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. | 9“Then the people in the towns of Israel will go out and pick up your small and large shields, bows and arrows, javelins and spears, and they will use them for fuel. There will be enough to last them seven years! |
They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will loot those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord GOD. | 10They won’t need to cut wood from the fields or forests, for these weapons will give them all the fuel they need. They will plunder those who planned to plunder them, and they will rob those who planned to rob them, says the Sovereign LORD. |
And on that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog. | 11“And I will make a vast graveyard for Gog and his hordes in the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Dead Sea. It will block the way of those who travel there, and they will change the name of the place to the Valley of Gog’s Hordes. |
For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. | 12It will take seven months for the people of Israel to bury the bodies and cleanse the land. |
All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD. | 13Everyone in Israel will help, for it will be a glorious victory for Israel when I demonstrate my glory on that day, says the Sovereign LORD. |
And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to cleanse it by burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search. | 14“After seven months, teams of men will be appointed to search the land for skeletons to bury, so the land will be made clean again. |
As they pass through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will set up a pillar next to it, until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon-gog. | 15Whenever bones are found, a marker will be set up so the burial crews will take them to be buried in the Valley of Gog’s Hordes. |
(Even the city will be named Hamonah.) And so they will cleanse the land. | 16(There will be a town there named Hamonah, which means ‘horde.’) And so the land will finally be cleansed. |
And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood. | 17“And now, son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Call all the birds and wild animals. Say to them: Gather together for my great sacrificial feast. Come from far and near to the mountains of Israel, and there eat flesh and drink blood! |
You will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all the fattened animals of Bashan. | 18Eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of princes as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all fattened animals from Bashan! |
At the sacrifice I am preparing, you will eat fat until you are gorged and drink blood until you are drunk. | 19Gorge yourselves with flesh until you are glutted; drink blood until you are drunk. This is the sacrificial feast I have prepared for you. |
And at My table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and warriors of every kind,’ declares the Lord GOD. | 20Feast at my banquet table—feast on horses and charioteers, on mighty men and all kinds of valiant warriors, says the Sovereign LORD. |
I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them. | 21“In this way, I will demonstrate my glory to the nations. Everyone will see the punishment I have inflicted on them and the power of my fist when I strike. |
From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. | 22And from that time on the people of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. |
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword. | 23The nations will then know why Israel was sent away to exile—it was punishment for sin, for they were unfaithful to their God. Therefore, I turned away from them and let their enemies destroy them. |
I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them. | 24I turned my face away and punished them because of their defilement and their sins. Restoration for God’s People |
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name. | 25“So now, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will end the captivity of my people ; I will have mercy on all Israel, for I jealously guard my holy reputation! |
They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them. | 26They will accept responsibility for their past shame and unfaithfulness after they come home to live in peace in their own land, with no one to bother them. |
When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations. | 27When I bring them home from the lands of their enemies, I will display my holiness among them for all the nations to see. |
Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations. | 28Then my people will know that I am the LORD their God, because I sent them away to exile and brought them home again. I will leave none of my people behind. |
And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.” | 29And I will never again turn my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit upon the people of Israel. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!” |
