And the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. | 1And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. |
You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. | 2Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. |
But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, | 3And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. |
Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. | 4But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. |
The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” | 5And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. |
Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the LORD commanded them. | 6And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. |
Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. | 7And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. |
Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, | 8And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, |
“When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’” | 9When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. |
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. | 10And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. |
Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. | 11Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. |
For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. | 12For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. |
Still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said. | 13And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. |
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go. | 14And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. |
Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water. Stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent. | 15Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. |
And you shall say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness.” But so far, you have not obeyed. | 16And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. |
Thus says the LORD, “By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water that is in the Nile, and it shall turn into blood. | 17Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. |
The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”’” | 18And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river. |
And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’” | 19And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. |
Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile turned into blood. | 20And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. |
And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. | 21And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. |
But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said. | 22And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. |
Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart. | 23And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also. |
And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile. | 24And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. |
Seven full days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile. | 25And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river. |
