Thessalonians 5
ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;
For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,12But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.13and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.14We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
Rejoice always,16Rejoice always;
pray without ceasing,17pray without ceasing;
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.18in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit.19Do not quench the Spirit;
Do not despise prophecies,20do not despise prophetic utterances.
but test everything; hold fast what is good.21But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;
Abstain from every form of evil.22abstain from every form of evil.
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.24Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
Brothers, pray for us.25Brethren, pray for us.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.26Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.27I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
