Galatians 5
ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.1It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.2Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.3And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law.
You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.4You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.5For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?7You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?
This persuasion is not from him who calls you.8This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump.9A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough.
I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is.10I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.
But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.11But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.
I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!12I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.13For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”14For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.15But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,20idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.21envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.26Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
