Psalm 89
ESV Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNET Bible
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.1A well-written song by Ethan the Ezrachite. I will sing continually about the LORD's faithful deeds; to future generations I will proclaim your faithfulness.
For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”2For I say, "Loyal love is permanently established; in the skies you set up your faithfulness."
You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant:3The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:
‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah4I will give you an eternal dynasty and establish your throne throughout future generations.'" (Selah)
Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!5O LORD, the heavens praise your amazing deeds, as well as your faithfulness in the angelic assembly.
For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD,6For who in the skies can compare to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings,
a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?7a God who is honored in the great angelic assembly, and more awesome than all who surround him?
O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?8O LORD, sovereign God! Who is strong like you, O LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.9You rule over the proud sea. When its waves surge, you calm them.
You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.10You crushed the Proud One and killed it; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies.
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.11The heavens belong to you, as does the earth. You made the world and all it contains.
The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.12You created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.
You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand.13Your arm is powerful, your hand strong, your right hand victorious.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.14Equity and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loyal love and faithfulness characterize your rule.
Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,15How blessed are the people who worship you! O LORD, they experience your favor.
who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.16They rejoice in your name all day long, and are vindicated by your justice.
For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.17For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious.
For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.18For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.19Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said: "I have energized a warrior; I have raised up a young man from the people.
I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him,20I have discovered David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him as king.
so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him.21My hand will support him, and my arm will strengthen him.
The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him.22No enemy will be able to exact tribute from him; a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him.
I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.23I will crush his enemies before him; I will strike down those who hate him.
My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.24He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories.
I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.25I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’26He will call out to me, 'You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.'
And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.27I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth's kings.
My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him.28I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure.
I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens.29I will give him an eternal dynasty, and make his throne as enduring as the skies above.
If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules,30If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations,
if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments,31if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments,
then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes,32I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises.
but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.33But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise.
I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.34I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised.
Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David.35Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David.
His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me.36His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun,
Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah37it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies." (Selah)
But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed.38But you have spurned and rejected him; you are angry with your chosen king.
You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust.39You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground.
You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins.40You have broken down all his walls; you have made his strongholds a heap of ruins.
All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.41All who pass by have robbed him; he has become an object of disdain to his neighbors.
You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.42You have allowed his adversaries to be victorious, and all his enemies to rejoice.
You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle.43You turn back his sword from the adversary, and have not sustained him in battle.
You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground.44You have brought to an end his splendor, and have knocked his throne to the ground.
You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah45You have cut short his youth, and have covered him with shame. (Selah)
How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?46How long, O LORD, will this last? Will you remain hidden forever? Will your anger continue to burn like fire?
Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!47Take note of my brief lifespan! Why do you make all people so mortal?
What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah48No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol. (Selah)
Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?49Where are your earlier faithful deeds, O Lord, the ones performed in accordance with your reliable oath to David?
Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations,50Take note, O Lord, of the way your servants are taunted, and of how I must bear so many insults from people!
with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed.51Your enemies, O LORD, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps.
Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.52The LORD deserves praise forevermore! We agree! We agree!
