Holman Christian Standard BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth. 1A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth.
For I will declare," Faithful love is built up forever; You establish Your faithfulness in the heavens." 2For I have said, "Lovingkindness will be built up forever; In the heavens You will establish Your faithfulness."
The LORD said," I have made a covenant with My chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David My servant: 3"I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant,
I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah 4I will establish your seed forever And build up your throne to all generations." Selah.
LORD, the heavens praise Your wonders-- Your faithfulness also-- in the assembly of the holy ones. 5The heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? 6For who in the skies is comparable to the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD,
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround Him. 7A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, And awesome above all those who are around Him?
LORD God of Hosts, who is strong like You, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds You. 8O LORD God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, You still them. 9You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them.
You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; You scattered Your enemies with Your powerful arm. 10You Yourself crushed Rahab like one who is slain; You scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.
The heavens are Yours; the earth also is Yours. The world and everything in it--You founded them. 11The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them.
North and south--You created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name. 12The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.
You have a mighty arm; Your hand is powerful; Your right hand is lifted high. 13You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; faithful love and truth go before You. 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You.
Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence. 15How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
They rejoice in Your name all day long, and they are exalted by Your righteousness. 16In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
For You are their magnificent strength; by Your favor our horn is exalted. 17For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted.
Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 18For our shield belongs to the LORD, And our king to the Holy One of Israel.
You once spoke in a vision to Your loyal ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 19Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ones, And said, "I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found David My servant; I have anointed him with My sacred oil. 20"I have found David My servant; With My holy oil I have anointed him,
My hand will always be with him, and My arm will strengthen him. 21With whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him.
The enemy will not afflict him; no wicked man will oppress him. 22"The enemy will not deceive him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him. 23"But I shall crush his adversaries before him, And strike those who hate him.
My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through My name his horn will be exalted. 24"My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him, And in My name his horn will be exalted.
I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers. 25"I shall also set his hand on the sea And his right hand on the rivers.
He will call to Me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.' 26"He will cry to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.'
I will also make him My firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth. 27"I also shall make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth.
I will always preserve My faithful love for him, and My covenant with him will endure. 28"My lovingkindness I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall be confirmed to him.
I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts. 29"So I will establish his descendants forever And his throne as the days of heaven.
If his sons forsake My instruction and do not live by My ordinances, 30"If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments,
if they dishonor My statutes and do not keep My commands, 31If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments,
then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their sin with blows. 32Then I will punish their transgression with the rod And their iniquity with stripes.
But I will not withdraw My faithful love from him or betray My faithfulness. 33"But I will not break off My lovingkindness from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
I will not violate My covenant or change what My lips have said. 34"My covenant I will not violate, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.
Once and for all I have sworn an oath by My holiness; I will not lie to David. 35"Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.
His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before Me, 36"His descendants shall endure forever And his throne as the sun before Me.
like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah 37"It shall be established forever like the moon, And the witness in the sky is faithful." Selah.
But You have spurned and rejected him; You have become enraged with Your anointed. 38But You have cast off and rejected, You have been full of wrath against Your anointed.
You have repudiated the covenant with Your servant; You have completely dishonored his crown. 39You have spurned the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown in the dust.
You have broken down all his walls; You have reduced his fortified cities to ruins. 40You have broken down all his walls; You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. 41All who pass along the way plunder him; He has become a reproach to his neighbors.
You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; You have made all his enemies rejoice. 42You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice.
You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle. 43You also turn back the edge of his sword And have not made him stand in battle.
You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne. 44You have made his splendor to cease And cast his throne to the ground.
You have shortened the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah 45You have shortened the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah.
How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your anger keep burning like fire? 46How long, O LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how short my life is. Have You created everyone for nothing? 47Remember what my span of life is; For what vanity You have created all the sons of men!
What man can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah 48What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.
Lord, where are the former acts of Your faithful love that You swore to David in Your faithfulness? 49Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord, Which You swore to David in Your faithfulness?
Remember, Lord, the ridicule against Your servants-- in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples-- 50Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants; How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
how Your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of Your anointed. 51With which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD, With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed.
May the LORD be praised forever. Amen and amen. 52Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
