Psalm 89
HCSB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth. 1A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
For I will declare," Faithful love is built up forever; You establish Your faithfulness in the heavens." 2I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
The LORD said," I have made a covenant with My chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David My servant: 3You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,
I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah 4I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.'"
LORD, the heavens praise Your wonders-- Your faithfulness also-- in the assembly of the holy ones. 5The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? 6For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround Him. 7In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.
LORD God of Hosts, who is strong like You, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds You. 8Who is like you, LORD God Almighty? You, LORD, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, You still them. 9You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; You scattered Your enemies with Your powerful arm. 10You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies.
The heavens are Yours; the earth also is Yours. The world and everything in it--You founded them. 11The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.
North and south--You created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name. 12You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name.
You have a mighty arm; Your hand is powerful; Your right hand is lifted high. 13Your arm is endowed with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; faithful love and truth go before You. 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.
Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence. 15Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
They rejoice in Your name all day long, and they are exalted by Your righteousness. 16They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.
For You are their magnificent strength; by Your favor our horn is exalted. 17For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.
Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 18Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
You once spoke in a vision to Your loyal ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 19Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people.
I have found David My servant; I have anointed him with My sacred oil. 20I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
My hand will always be with him, and My arm will strengthen him. 21My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
The enemy will not afflict him; no wicked man will oppress him. 22The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him.
I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him. 23I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.
My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through My name his horn will be exalted. 24My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers. 25I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
He will call to Me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.' 26He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.'
I will also make him My firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth. 27And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.
I will always preserve My faithful love for him, and My covenant with him will endure. 28I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail.
I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts. 29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
If his sons forsake My instruction and do not live by My ordinances, 30"If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes,
if they dishonor My statutes and do not keep My commands, 31if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands,
then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their sin with blows. 32I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging;
But I will not withdraw My faithful love from him or betray My faithfulness. 33but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
I will not violate My covenant or change what My lips have said. 34I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.
Once and for all I have sworn an oath by My holiness; I will not lie to David. 35Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness-- and I will not lie to David--
His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before Me, 36that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;
like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah 37it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky."
But You have spurned and rejected him; You have become enraged with Your anointed. 38But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one.
You have repudiated the covenant with Your servant; You have completely dishonored his crown. 39You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust.
You have broken down all his walls; You have reduced his fortified cities to ruins. 40You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins.
All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. 41All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; You have made all his enemies rejoice. 42You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle. 43Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle.
You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne. 44You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.
You have shortened the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah 45You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame.
How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your anger keep burning like fire? 46How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how short my life is. Have You created everyone for nothing? 47Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all humanity!
What man can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah 48Who can live and not see death, or who can escape the power of the grave?
Lord, where are the former acts of Your faithful love that You swore to David in Your faithfulness? 49Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
Remember, Lord, the ridicule against Your servants-- in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples-- 50Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
how Your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of Your anointed. 51the taunts with which your enemies, LORD, have mocked, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.
May the LORD be praised forever. Amen and amen. 52Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
