Therefore, my dear brothers whom I long for, my joy and my victor's crown, this is how you must stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. | 1So then, my dearly loved and longed for brothers and sisters, my joy and crown, in this manner stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. |
I urge Euodia and Syntyche to have the same attitude in the Lord. | 2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord. |
Yes, I also ask you, my true partner, to help these women. They have worked hard with me to advance the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life. | 3Yes, I also ask you, true partner, to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers whose names are in the book of life. |
Keep on rejoicing in the Lord at all times. I will say it again: Keep on rejoicing! | 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! |
Let your gracious attitude be known to all people. The Lord is near: | 5Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving. | 6Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. |
Then God's peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your hearts and minds in union with the Messiah Jesus. | 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. |
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—keep thinking about these things. | 8Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable--if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy--dwell on these things. |
Likewise, keep practicing these things: what you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you. | 9Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. |
Now I rejoice in the Lord greatly, because once again you have shown your concern for me. Of course, you were concerned for me but you did not have an opportunity to show it. | 10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again you renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it. |
I am not saying this because I am in any need, for I have learned to be content in whatever situation I am in. | 11I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. |
I know how to be humble, and I know how to prosper. In each and every situation I have learned the secret of being full and of going hungry, of having too much and of having too little. | 12I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content--whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. |
I can do all things through him who strengthens me. | 13I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. |
Nevertheless, it was kind of you to share my troubles. | 14Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship. |
You Philippians also know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church participated with me in the matter of giving and receiving except for you. | 15And you Philippians know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone. |
Even while I was in Thessalonica, you provided for my needs not once, but twice. | 16For even in Thessalonica you sent gifts for my need several times. |
It is not that I am looking for a gift. No, I want to see that you receive the fruit that increases to your benefit. | 17Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit that is increasing to your account. |
I have been paid in full and have more than enough. I am fully supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus what you sent—a fragrant aroma, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. | 18But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided--a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. |
And my God will fully supply your every need according to his glorious riches in the Messiah Jesus. | 19And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. |
Glory belongs to our God and Father forever and ever! Amen. | 20Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. |
Greet every saint who is in union with the Messiah Jesus. The brothers who are with me send their greetings to you. | 21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you greetings. |
All the saints, especially those of the emperor's household, greet you. | 22All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar's household. |
May the grace of the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with your spirit! Amen. | 23The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. |
