| 2for the mouths of wicked and deceitful people are opened against me; they speak against me with lying tongues. | 2for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. |
| 3They surround me with hate-filled words, attacking me for no reason. | 3With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. |
| 4Instead of receiving my love, they accuse me, though I continue in prayer. | 4In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. |

| 21Now you, LORD my God, defend me for your name's sake; because your gracious love is good, deliver me! | 21But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. |
