Psalm 109
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
God, whom I praise, do not be silent,1O God, whom I praise, don’t stand silent and aloof
for the mouths of wicked and deceitful people are opened against me; they speak against me with lying tongues.2while the wicked slander me and tell lies about me.
They surround me with hate-filled words, attacking me for no reason.3They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason.
Instead of receiving my love, they accuse me, though I continue in prayer.4I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them!
They devise evil against me instead of good, and hatred in place of my love.5They repay evil for good, and hatred for my love.
Appoint an evil person over him; may an accuser stand at his right side. 6They say, “Get an evil person to turn against him. Send an accuser to bring him to trial.
When he is judged, may he be found guilty; may his prayer be regarded as sin.7When his case comes up for judgment, let him be pronounced guilty. Count his prayers as sins.
May his days be few; may another take over his position. 8Let his years be few; let someone else take his position.
May his children become fatherless, and his wife a widow.9May his children become fatherless, and his wife a widow.
May his children roam around begging, seeking food while driven far from their ruined homes.10May his children wander as beggars and be driven from their ruined homes.
May creditors seize all his possessions, and may foreigners loot the property he has acquired. 11May creditors seize his entire estate, and strangers take all he has earned.
May no one extend gracious love to him, or show favor to his fatherless children.12Let no one be kind to him; let no one pity his fatherless children.
May his descendants be eliminated, and their memory be erased from the next generation.13May all his offspring die. May his family name be blotted out in the next generation.
May his ancestors' guilt be remembered in the LORD's presence, and may his mother's guilt not be erased.14May the LORD never forget the sins of his fathers; may his mother’s sins never be erased from the record.
May what they have done be continually in the LORD's presence; and may their memory be excised from the earth.15May the LORD always remember these sins, and may his name disappear from human memory.
For he didn't think to extend gracious love; he harassed to death the poor, the needy, and the broken hearted. 16For he refused all kindness to others; he persecuted the poor and needy, and he hounded the brokenhearted to death.
He loved to curse—may his curses return upon him! He took no delight in blessing others — so may blessings be far from him.17He loved to curse others; now you curse him. He never blessed others; now don’t you bless him.
He wore curses like a garment— may they enter his inner being like water and his bones like oil.18Cursing is as natural to him as his clothing, or the water he drinks, or the rich food he eats.
May those curses wrap around him like a garment, or like a belt that one always wears.19Now may his curses return and cling to him like clothing; may they be tied around him like a belt.”
May this be the way the LORD repays my accuser, those who speak evil against me.20May those curses become the LORD’s punishment for my accusers who speak evil of me.
Now you, LORD my God, defend me for your name's sake; because your gracious love is good, deliver me!21But deal well with me, O Sovereign LORD, for the sake of your own reputation! Rescue me because you are so faithful and good.
Indeed, I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.22For I am poor and needy, and my heart is full of pain.
I am fading away like a shadow late in the day; I am shaken off like a locust.23I am fading like a shadow at dusk; I am brushed off like a locust.
My knees give way from fasting, and my skin is lean, deprived of oil.24My knees are weak from fasting, and I am skin and bones.
I have become an object of derision to them— they shake their heads whenever they see me.25I am a joke to people everywhere; when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.
Help me, LORD my God! Deliver me in accord with your gracious love!26Help me, O LORD my God! Save me because of your unfailing love.
Then they will realize that your hand is in this— that you, LORD, have accomplished it.27Let them see that this is your doing, that you yourself have done it, LORD.
They will curse, but you will bless. When they attack, they will be humiliated, while your servant rejoices.28Then let them curse me if they like, but you will bless me! When they attack me, they will be disgraced! But I, your servant, will go right on rejoicing!
May my accusers be clothed with shame and wrapped in their humiliation as with a robe.29May my accusers be clothed with disgrace; may their humiliation cover them like a cloak.
I will give many thanks to the LORD with my mouth, praising him publicly,30But I will give repeated thanks to the LORD, praising him to everyone.
for he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to deliver him from his accusers. 31For he stands beside the needy, ready to save them from those who condemn them.
