Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. | 1My soul, bless the LORD! LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with majesty and splendor. |
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: | 2He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, |
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind: | 3laying the beams of his palace on the waters above, making the clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind, |
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: | 4and making the winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. |
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. | 5He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken. |
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. | 6You covered it with the deep as if it were a garment; the water stood above the mountains. |
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. | 7At your rebuke the water fled; at the sound of your thunder they hurried away-- |
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. | 8mountains rose and valleys sank--to the place you established for them. |
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth. | 9You set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never cover the earth again. |
He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. | 10He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains. |
They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. | 11They supply water for every wild beast; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. | 12The birds of the sky live beside the springs; they make their voices heard among the foliage. |
He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. | 13He waters the mountains from his palace; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of your labor. |
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; | 14He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth, |
And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart. | 15wine that makes human hearts glad--making his face shine with oil--and bread that sustains human hearts. |
The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; | 16The trees of the LORD flourish, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. |
Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house. | 17There the birds make their nests; storks make their homes in the pine trees. |
The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies. | 18The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for hyraxes. |
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. | 19He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set. |
Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. | 20You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals stir. |
The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God. | 21The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. |
The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. | 22The sun rises; they go back and lie down in their dens. |
Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening. | 23Man goes out to his work and to his labor until evening. |
O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. | 24How countless are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. |
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. | 25Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number--living things both large and small. |
There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. | 26There the ships move about, and Leviathan, which you formed to play there. |
These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. | 27All of them wait for you to give them their food at the right time. |
That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. | 28When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. |
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. | 29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. |
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. | 30When you send your breath, they are created, and you renew the surface of the ground. |
The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works. | 31May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works. |
He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. | 32He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke. |
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. | 33I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live. |
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. | 34May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the LORD. |
Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD. | 35May sinners vanish from the earth and wicked people be no more. My soul, bless the LORD! Hallelujah! |
