O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. | 1Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples. |
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. | 2Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works! |
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. | 3Honor his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. |
Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. | 4Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. |
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; | 5Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced, |
O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. | 6you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob's descendants--his chosen ones. |
He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. | 7He is the LORD our God; his judgments govern the whole earth. |
He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. | 8He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations-- |
Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; | 9the covenant he made with Abraham, swore to Isaac, |
And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: | 10and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as a permanent covenant: |
Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: | 11"I will give the land of Canaan to you as your inherited portion." |
When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. | 12When they were few in number, very few indeed, and resident aliens in Canaan, |
When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; | 13wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another, |
He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; | 14he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their behalf: |
Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. | 15"Do not touch my anointed ones, or harm my prophets." |
Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread. | 16He called down famine against the land and destroyed the entire food supply. |
He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: | 17He had sent a man ahead of them--Joseph, who was sold as a slave. |
Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: | 18They hurt his feet with shackles; his neck was put in an iron collar. |
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. | 19Until the time his prediction came true, the word of the LORD tested him. |
The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. | 20The king sent for him and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free. |
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: | 21He made him master of his household, ruler over all his possessions-- |
To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom. | 22binding his officials at will and instructing his elders. |
Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. | 23Then Israel went to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham. |
And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies. | 24The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them more numerous than their foes, |
He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. | 25whose hearts he turned to hate his people and to deal deceptively with his servants. |
He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. | 26He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. |
They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. | 27They performed his miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. |
He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. | 28He sent darkness, and it became dark--for did they not defy his commands? |
He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. | 29He turned their water into blood and caused their fish to die. |
Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. | 30Their land was overrun with frogs, even in their royal chambers. |
He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. | 31He spoke, and insects came--gnats throughout their country. |
He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. | 32He gave them hail for rain, and lightning throughout their land. |
He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts. | 33He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their territory. |
He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number, | 34He spoke, and locusts came--young locusts without number. |
And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. | 35They devoured all the vegetation in their land and consumed the produce of their land. |
He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength. | 36He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny. |
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. | 37Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled. |
Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. | 38Egypt was glad when they left, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them. |
He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. | 39He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night. |
The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. | 40They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven. |
He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. | 41He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert. |
For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. | 42For he remembered his holy promise to Abraham his servant. |
And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: | 43He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy. |
And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people; | 44He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited what other peoples had worked for. |
That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the LORD. | 45All this happened so that they might keep his statutes and obey his instructions. Hallelujah! |
