John 10
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
"Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.1"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.
The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.2"But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.3"To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.4"When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.
But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."5"A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers."
Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.6This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
Therefore Jesus said again, "Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.7So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them.8"All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.9"I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.10"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.11"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.12"He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.13"He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.
"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me--14"I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep.15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.16"I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again.17"For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."18"No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father."
The Jews who heard these words were again divided.19A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words.
Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?"20Many of them were saying, "He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?"
But others said, "These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?"21Others were saying, "These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?"
Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter,22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem;
and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon's Colonnade.23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon.
The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly."24The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, "How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly."
Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me,25Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me.
but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.26"But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.27"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.29"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
I and the Father are one."30"I and the Father are one."
Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him.
but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"32Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"
"We are not stoning you for any good work," they replied, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."33The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods"'?34Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS '?
If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and Scripture cannot be set aside--35"If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God '?
Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.37"If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.39Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.
Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,40And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there.
and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true."41Many came to Him and were saying, "While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true."
And in that place many believed in Jesus.42Many believed in Him there.
