Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.3For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.4And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,5Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later.
but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness,8do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,
Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.9where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.
Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’10Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”11So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ”
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;12See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”15As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?16For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?17And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?18And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.19So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
