Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,1Ὅθεν ἀδελφοὶ ἅγιοι κλήσεως ἐπουρανίου μέτοχοι κατανοήσατε τὸν Ἀπόστολον καὶ Ἀρχιερέα τῆς ὁμολογίας ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν
who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.2πιστὸν ὄντα τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτὸν ὡς καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.3Πλείονος γὰρ οὗτος δόξης παρὰ Μωϋσῆν ἠξίωται καθ’ ὅσον πλείονα τιμὴν ἔχει τοῦ οἴκου κατασκευάσας αὐτόν
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.4πᾶς γὰρ οἶκος κατασκευάζεται ὑπό τινος δὲ πάντα κατασκευάσας Θεός
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,5Καὶ Μωϋσῆς μὲν πιστὸς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ὡς θεράπων εἰς μαρτύριον τῶν λαληθησομένων
but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.6Χριστὸς δὲ ὡς υἱὸς ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ οὗ οἶκός ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς ἐὰν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς ἐλπίδος 〈μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν〉 κατάσχωμεν
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,7Διό καθὼς λέγει τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness,8μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ κατὰ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πειρασμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.9οὗ ἐπείρασαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν δοκιμασίᾳ καὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα μου τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη
Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’10διὸ προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ καὶ εἶπον Ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”11ὡς ὤμοσα ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ μου Εἰ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;12Βλέπετε ἀδελφοί μή‿ ποτε ἔσται ἔν τινι ὑμῶν καρδία πονηρὰ ἀπιστίας ἐν τῷ ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ζῶντος
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13ἀλλὰ παρακαλεῖτε ἑαυτοὺς καθ’ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν ἄχρις οὗ τὸ Σήμερον καλεῖται ἵνα μὴ σκληρυνθῇ τις ἐξ ὑμῶν ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἁμαρτίας
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,14Μέτοχοι γὰρ τοῦ Χριστοῦ γεγόναμεν ἐάνπερ τὴν ἀρχὴν τῆς ὑποστάσεως μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν κατάσχωμεν
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”15ἐν τῷ λέγεσθαι Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε Μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?16Τίνες γὰρ ἀκούσαντες παρεπίκραναν ἀλλ’ οὐ πάντες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου διὰ Μωϋσέως
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?17τίσιν δὲ προσώχθισεν τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη οὐχὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτήσασιν ὧν τὰ κῶλα ἔπεσεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?18τίσιν δὲ ὤμοσεν μὴ εἰσελεύσεσθαι εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἀπειθήσασιν
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.19καὶ βλέπομεν ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν εἰσελθεῖν δι’ ἀπιστίαν
