Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,1Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession;
who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God's household.
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.3For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house.
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.4Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God.
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.
but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.6But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness,8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.9where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works
Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’10for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways."
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”11So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest."
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;12Watch out, brothers, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God.
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,14For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”15As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?16For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?17And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?18And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
