To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I will love You, O LORD, my strength.1I love you, LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.3I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.
The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.4The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me.
The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me.5The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears.6I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry.7Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because he burned with anger.
Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it.8Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; coals were set ablaze by it.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down With darkness under His feet.9He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet.
And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind.10He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness His secret place; His canopy around Him was dark waters And thick clouds of the skies.11He made darkness his hiding place, dark storm clouds his canopy around him.
From the brightness before Him, His thick clouds passed with hailstones and coals of fire.12From the radiance of his presence, his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.
The LORD thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire.13The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High made his voice heard.
He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe, Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them.14He shot his arrows and scattered them; he hurled lightning bolts and routed them.
Then the channels of the sea were seen, The foundations of the world were uncovered At Your rebuke, O LORD, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.15The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.16He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me.17He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support.18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support.
He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.19He brought me out to a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; he repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God.21For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness.
For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me.22Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me and have not disregarded his statutes.
I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.23I was blameless toward him and kept myself from my iniquity.
Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.24So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;25With the faithful you prove yourself faithful, with the blameless you prove yourself blameless,
With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.26with the pure you prove yourself pure; but with the crooked you prove yourself shrewd.
For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks.27For you rescue an oppressed people, but you humble those with haughty eyes.
For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.28LORD, you light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness.
For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.29With you I can attack a barricade, and with my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.30God--his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him.
For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?31For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God.
It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect.32God--he clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect.
He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.33He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights.
He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.34He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great.35You have given me the shield of your salvation; your right hand upholds me, and your humility exalts me.
You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip.36You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way.
I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.37I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out.
I have wounded them, So that they could not rise; They have fallen under my feet.38I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet.
For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.39You have clothed me with strength for battle; you subdue my adversaries beneath me.
You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me.40You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me.
They cried out, but there was none to save; Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.41They cry for help, but there is no one to save them--they cry to the LORD, but he does not answer them.
Then I beat them as fine as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like dirt in the streets.42I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets.
You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You have made me the head of the nations; A people I have not known shall serve me.43You have freed me from the feuds among the people; you have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me.
As soon as they hear of me they obey me; The foreigners submit to me.44Foreigners submit to me cringing; as soon as they hear they obey me.
The foreigners fade away, And come frightened from their hideouts.45Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications.
The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted.46The LORD lives--blessed be my rock! The God of my salvation is exalted.
It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me;47God--he grants me vengeance and subdues peoples under me.
He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.48He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; you rescue me from violent men.
Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name.49Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations, LORD; I will sing praises about your name.
Great deliverance He gives to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore.50He gives great victories to his king; he shows loyalty to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
