Peter 4
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,1Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.2so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.3For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.
In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.4With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;
They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.6For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.7The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”8Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.9Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.11whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.13But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.15But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.
Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?17For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”18And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.19Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.
