New King James Version | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. | 1Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. |
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. | 2Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. |
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. | 3For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. |
When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. | 4When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. |
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. | 5Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. |
Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, | 6For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, |
in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. | 7and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. |
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. | 8But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. |
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, | 9Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, |
and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, | 10and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him-- |
where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. | 11a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. |
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; | 12So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; |
bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. | 13bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. |
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. | 14Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. |
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. | 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. |
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. | 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. |
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. | 17Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. |
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. | 18Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. | 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them. |
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. | 20Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. |
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. | 21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. |
Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. | 22Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. |
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, | 23Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, |
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. | 24knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. |
But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality. | 25For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. |
