New King James VersionNET Bible
“Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young? Or can you mark when the deer gives birth?1"Are you acquainted with the way the mountain goats give birth? Do you watch as the wild deer give birth to their young?
Can you number the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they bear young?2Do you count the months they must fulfill, and do you know the time they give birth?
They bow down, They bring forth their young, They deliver their offspring.3They crouch, they bear their young, they bring forth the offspring they have carried.
Their young ones are healthy, They grow strong with grain; They depart and do not return to them.4Their young grow strong, and grow up in the open; they go off, and do not return to them.
“Who set the wild donkey free? Who loosed the bonds of the onager,5Who let the wild donkey go free? Who released the bonds of the donkey,
Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the barren land his dwelling?6to whom I appointed the steppe for its home, the salt wastes as its dwelling place?
He scorns the tumult of the city; He does not heed the shouts of the driver.7It scorns the tumult in the town; it does not hear the shouts of a driver.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searches after every green thing.8It ranges the hills as its pasture, and searches after every green plant.
“Will the wild ox be willing to serve you? Will he bed by your manger?9Is the wild ox willing to be your servant? Will it spend the night at your feeding trough?
Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with ropes? Or will he plow the valleys behind you?10Can you bind the wild ox to a furrow with its rope, will it till the valleys, following after you?
Will you trust him because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him?11Will you rely on it because its strength is great? Will you commit your labor to it?
Will you trust him to bring home your grain, And gather it to your threshing floor?12Can you count on it to bring in your grain, and gather the grain to your threshing floor?
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s?13"The wings of the ostrich flap with joy, but are they the pinions and plumage of a stork?
For she leaves her eggs on the ground, And warms them in the dust;14For she leaves her eggs on the ground, and lets them be warmed on the soil.
She forgets that a foot may crush them, Or that a wild beast may break them.15She forgets that a foot might crush them, or that a wild animal might trample them.
She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers; Her labor is in vain, without concern,16She is harsh with her young, as if they were not hers; she is unconcerned about the uselessness of her labor.
Because God deprived her of wisdom, And did not endow her with understanding.17For God deprived her of wisdom, and did not impart understanding to her.
When she lifts herself on high, She scorns the horse and its rider.18But as soon as she springs up, she laughs at the horse and its rider.
“Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder?19"Do you give the horse its strength? Do you clothe its neck with a mane?
Can you frighten him like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror.20Do you make it leap like a locust? Its proud neighing is terrifying!
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; He gallops into the clash of arms.21It paws the ground in the valley, exulting mightily, it goes out to meet the weapons.
He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; Nor does he turn back from the sword.22It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.
The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin.23On it the quiver rattles; the lance and javelin flash.
He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.24In excitement and impatience it consumes the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet is blown.
At the blast of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.25At the sound of the trumpet, it says, 'Aha!' And from a distance it catches the scent of battle, the thunderous shouting of commanders, and the battle cries.
“Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, And spread its wings toward the south?26"Is it by your understanding that the hawk soars, and spreads its wings toward the south?
Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high?27Is it at your command that the eagle soars, and builds its nest on high?
On the rock it dwells and resides, On the crag of the rock and the stronghold.28It lives on a rock and spends the night there, on a rocky crag and a fortress.
From there it spies out the prey; Its eyes observe from afar.29From there it spots its prey, its eyes gaze intently from a distance.
Its young ones suck up blood; And where the slain are, there it is.30And its young ones devour the blood, and where the dead carcasses are, there it is."
