| 1This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. | 1This is the written account of Adam's family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. |
| 2He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. | 2He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them "Mankind" when they were created. |
| 3And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. | 3When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. |
| 4After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. | 4After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 5So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. | 5Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. |
| 6Seth lived one hundred and five years, and begot Enosh. | 6When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh. |
| 7After he begot Enosh, Seth lived eight hundred and seven years, and had sons and daughters. | 7After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 8So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died. | 8Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died. |
| 9Enosh lived ninety years, and begot Cainan. | 9When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. |
| 10After he begot Cainan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and had sons and daughters. | 10After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 11So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died. | 11Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died. |
| 12Cainan lived seventy years, and begot Mahalalel. | 12When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. |
| 13After he begot Mahalalel, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years, and had sons and daughters. | 13After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 14So all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died. | 14Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died. |
| 15Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and begot Jared. | 15When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. |
| 16After he begot Jared, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters. | 16After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 17So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died. | 17Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died. |
| 18Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and begot Enoch. | 18When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. |
| 19After he begot Enoch, Jared lived eight hundred years, and had sons and daughters. | 19After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 20So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died. | 20Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died. |
| 21Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. | 21When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. |
| 22After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. | 22After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 23So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. | 23Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. |
| 24And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. | 24Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. |
| 25Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begot Lamech. | 25When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. |
| 26After he begot Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had sons and daughters. | 26After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 27So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died. | 27Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died. |
| 28Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. | 28When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. |
| 29And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.” | 29He named him Noah and said, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed." |
| 30After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and had sons and daughters. | 30After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. |
| 31So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died. | 31Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died. |
| 32And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth. | 32After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth. |
