“Son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign LORD: I am your enemy, O Gog, ruler of the nations of Meshech and Tubal. | 1"As for you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Look, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. |
I will turn you around and drive you toward the mountains of Israel, bringing you from the distant north. | 2I will turn you around, drive you on, and lead you up from the remotest parts of the north. I will bring you against the mountains of Israel. |
I will knock the bow from your left hand and the arrows from your right hand, and I will leave you helpless. | 3Then I will knock your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. |
You and your army and your allies will all die on the mountains. I will feed you to the vultures and wild animals. | 4You, all your troops, and the peoples who are with you will fall on the mountains of Israel. I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and to the wild animals. |
You will fall in the open fields, for I have spoken, says the Sovereign LORD. | 5You will fall on the open field, for I have spoken. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. |
And I will rain down fire on Magog and on all your allies who live safely on the coasts. Then they will know that I am the LORD. | 6"'I will send fire against Magog and those who live securely on the coasts and islands. Then they will know that I am the LORD. |
“In this way, I will make known my holy name among my people of Israel. I will not let anyone bring shame on it. And the nations, too, will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. | 7So I will make my holy name known among my people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. |
That day of judgment will come, says the Sovereign LORD. Everything will happen just as I have declared it. | 8Yes, it is coming, and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. This is the day I have spoken about. |
“Then the people in the towns of Israel will go out and pick up your small and large shields, bows and arrows, javelins and spears, and they will use them for fuel. There will be enough to last them seven years! | 9"'Then the inhabitants of Israel's cities will go out, kindle fires, and burn the weapons--the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them to make fires. |
They won’t need to cut wood from the fields or forests, for these weapons will give them all the fuel they need. They will plunder those who planned to plunder them, and they will rob those who planned to rob them, says the Sovereign LORD. | 10They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it down from the forests, for they will use the weapons to make fires. They will take the loot from those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. |
“And I will make a vast graveyard for Gog and his hordes in the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Dead Sea. It will block the way of those who travel there, and they will change the name of the place to the Valley of Gog’s Hordes. | 11"'Now on that day I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel--the Travelers' Valley east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, for Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called Hordes of Gog Valley. |
It will take seven months for the people of Israel to bury the bodies and cleanse the land. | 12The house of Israel will spend seven months burying them in order to cleanse the land. |
Everyone in Israel will help, for it will be a glorious victory for Israel when I demonstrate my glory on that day, says the Sovereign LORD. | 13All the people of the land will bury them and their fame will spread on the day I display my glory. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. |
“After seven months, teams of men will be appointed to search the land for skeletons to bury, so the land will be made clean again. | 14"'They will appoint men on a full-time basis to pass through the land and bury the invaders who remain on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. They will make their search at the end of the seven months. |
Whenever bones are found, a marker will be set up so the burial crews will take them to be buried in the Valley of Gog’s Hordes. | 15When they pass through the land and one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker next to it until the buriers have buried it in Hordes of Gog Valley. |
(There will be a town there named Hamonah, which means ‘horde.’) And so the land will finally be cleansed. | 16There will even be a city named Hamonah there. So they will cleanse the land.' |
“And now, son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Call all the birds and wild animals. Say to them: Gather together for my great sacrificial feast. Come from far and near to the mountains of Israel, and there eat flesh and drink blood! | 17"Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Tell every kind of bird and all the wild animals, 'Assemble and come! Gather from all around to my sacrificial feast that I am slaughtering for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel; you will eat flesh and drink blood. |
Eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of princes as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all fattened animals from Bashan! | 18You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the earth's princes: rams, lambs, male goats, and all the fattened bulls of Bashan. |
Gorge yourselves with flesh until you are glutted; drink blood until you are drunk. This is the sacrificial feast I have prepared for you. | 19You will eat fat until you are satisfied and drink blood until you are drunk, at my sacrificial feast that I have prepared for you. |
Feast at my banquet table—feast on horses and charioteers, on mighty men and all kinds of valiant warriors, says the Sovereign LORD. | 20At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and all the warriors. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.' |
“In this way, I will demonstrate my glory to the nations. Everyone will see the punishment I have inflicted on them and the power of my fist when I strike. | 21"I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment I have executed and the hand I have laid on them. |
And from that time on the people of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. | 22From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. |
The nations will then know why Israel was sent away to exile—it was punishment for sin, for they were unfaithful to their God. Therefore, I turned away from them and let their enemies destroy them. | 23And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile on account of their iniquity, because they dealt unfaithfully with me. Therefore, I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword. |
I turned my face away and punished them because of their defilement and their sins. Restoration for God’s People | 24I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid my face from them. |
“So now, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will end the captivity of my people ; I will have mercy on all Israel, for I jealously guard my holy reputation! | 25"So this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. |
They will accept responsibility for their past shame and unfaithfulness after they come home to live in peace in their own land, with no one to bother them. | 26They will feel remorse for their disgrace and all the unfaithfulness they committed against me, when they live securely in their land with no one to frighten them. |
When I bring them home from the lands of their enemies, I will display my holiness among them for all the nations to see. | 27When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the countries of their enemies, I will demonstrate my holiness through them in the sight of many nations. |
Then my people will know that I am the LORD their God, because I sent them away to exile and brought them home again. I will leave none of my people behind. | 28They will know that I am the LORD their God when I regather them to their own land after having exiled them among the nations. I will leave none of them behind. |
And I will never again turn my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit upon the people of Israel. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!” | 29I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel." This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. |
