New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. | 1In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame! |
Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. | 2In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me! |
Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. | 3Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. |
My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. | 4Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man. |
O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O LORD, from childhood. | 5For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth. |
Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! | 6Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you. |
My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. | 7I have been as a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. |
That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. | 8My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day. |
And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing. | 9Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. |
For my enemies are whispering against me. They are plotting together to kill me. | 10For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together |
They say, “God has abandoned him. Let’s go and get him, for no one will help him now.” | 11and say, “God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him.” |
O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me. | 12O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! |
Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me. | 13May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt. |
But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. | 14But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. |
I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. | 15My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. |
I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. | 16With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone. |
O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. | 17O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. |
Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. | 18So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come. |
Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? | 19Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you? |
You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. | 20You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. |
You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. | 21You will increase my greatness and comfort me again. |
Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. | 22I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. |
I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. | 23My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed. |
I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated. | 24And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt. |
