Psalm 38
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
O LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage!1A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me.2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins.3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins.5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief.6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken.7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart.8I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh.9Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery.12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak.13But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply.14Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
I prayed, “Don’t let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall.”16For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain.17For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
I have many aggressive enemies; they hate me without reason.19But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
They repay me evil for good and oppose me for pursuing good.20They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God.21Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior.22Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
