O LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage!1A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me.2For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me.
Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins.3There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin.
My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.4For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins.5My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly.
I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief.6I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning.
A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken.7For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body.
I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart.8I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh.9O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You.
My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.10My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded.
My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.11My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance.
Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery.12Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long.
But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak.13But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth.
I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply.14I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply.
For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.15I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God.
I prayed, “Don’t let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall.”16For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.”
I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain.17For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.18Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
I have many aggressive enemies; they hate me without reason.19Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason.
They repay me evil for good and oppose me for pursuing good.20Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good.
Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God.21Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God.
Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior.22Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
