“At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. Also make a wooden Ark—a sacred chest to store them in. Come up to me on the mountain,1At that same time the LORD said to me, "Carve out for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones and come up the mountain to me; also make for yourself a wooden ark.
and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the Ark.’2I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the first tablets you broke, and you must put them into the ark."
“So I made an Ark of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first two. Then I went up the mountain with the tablets in my hand.3So I made an ark of acacia wood and carved out two stone tablets just like the first ones. Then I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.
Once again the LORD wrote the Ten Commandments on the tablets and gave them to me. They were the same words the LORD had spoken to you from the heart of the fire on the day you were assembled at the foot of the mountain.4The LORD then wrote on the tablets the same words, the ten commandments, which he had spoken to you at the mountain from the middle of the fire at the time of that assembly, and he gave them to me.
Then I turned and came down the mountain and placed the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant, which I had made, just as the LORD commanded me. And the tablets are still there in the Ark.”5Then I turned, went down the mountain, and placed the tablets into the ark I had made--they are still there, just as the LORD commanded me.
(The people of Israel set out from the wells of the people of Jaakan and traveled to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried. His son Eleazar ministered as high priest in his place.6"During those days the Israelites traveled from Beeroth Bene-Yaaqan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar became priest in his place.
Then they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from there to Jotbathah, a land with many brooks and streams.7From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a place of flowing streams.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, and to stand before the LORD as his ministers, and to pronounce blessings in his name. These are their duties to this day.8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the LORD's covenant, to stand before the LORD to serve him, and to formulate blessings in his name, as they do to this very day.
That is why the Levites have no share of property or possession of land among the other Israelite tribes. The LORD himself is their special possession, as the LORD your God told them.)9Therefore Levi has no allotment or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance just as the LORD your God told him.
“As for me, I stayed on the mountain in the LORD’s presence for forty days and nights, as I had done the first time. And once again the LORD listened to my pleas and agreed not to destroy you.10As for me, I stayed at the mountain as I did the first time, forty days and nights. The LORD listened to me that time as well and decided not to destroy you.
Then the LORD said to me, ‘Get up and resume the journey, and lead the people to the land I swore to give to their ancestors, so they may take possession of it.’ A Call to Love and Obedience11Then he said to me, "Get up, set out leading the people so they may go and possess the land I promised to give to their ancestors."
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.12Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you except to revere him, to obey all his commandments, to love him, to serve him with all your mind and being,
And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.13and to keep the Lord's commandments and statutes that I am giving you today for your own good?
“Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God.14The heavens--indeed the highest heavens--belong to the LORD your God, as does the earth and everything in it.
Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today.15However, only to your ancestors did he show his loving favor, and he chose you, their descendants, from all peoples--as is apparent today.
Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn.16Therefore, cleanse your heart and stop being so stubborn!
“For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.17For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who is unbiased and takes no bribe,
He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.18who justly treats the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing.
So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.19So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
You must fear the LORD your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone.20Revere the LORD your God, serve him, be loyal to him and take oaths only in his name.
He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes.21He is the one you should praise; he is your God, the one who has done these great and awesome things for you that you have seen.
When your ancestors went down into Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky!22When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky.
