How to uphold faith daily today?
How can we "contend for the faith" in our daily lives today?

Jude 1:3 in Focus

“Beloved, although I was eager to write you about our common salvation, I felt it necessary to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith entrusted once for all to the saints.”

• “Contend earnestly” pictures an athlete straining to the point of sweat—vigorous, intentional effort.

• “The faith” is the complete, unchanging body of biblical truth delivered “once for all.” Nothing needs adding or revising.

• “Entrusted” means God has placed this treasure in our hands; we are stewards, not editors.

Why Contending Matters Today

• False teaching is multiplying (2 Peter 2:1).

• Culture pressures believers to compromise (Romans 12:2).

• Souls hang in the balance; truth sets people free (John 8:32).

• The honor of Christ is at stake (Jude 1:25).

Daily Habits That Keep Us Ready

• Immerse in Scripture

Psalm 1:2; Acts 17:11—delight in, examine, and internalize the Word.

• Guard sound doctrine

Titus 1:9; 1 Timothy 6:20—hold the line against distortion.

• Pray continually

Jude 1:20; Ephesians 6:18—Spirit-led prayer fuels discernment and courage.

• Clothe yourself in holiness

Philippians 1:27; 1 Peter 1:15—your life validates your message.

• Armor up daily

Ephesians 6:10-18—truth, righteousness, faith, Scripture, and prayer protect and equip.

Speaking Out with Grace and Truth

• Be ready with a reasoned defense

– “Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you, but do so with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15)

• Correct error, but gently

2 Timothy 2:24-25—kindness opens ears that argument alone will not.

• Proclaim the gospel plainly

Romans 1:16—never ashamed; power is in the message itself.

• Engage ideas, not just personalities

– “We demolish arguments and every presumption that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Building a Contending Community

• Commit to a biblical local church—teaching, fellowship, accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Disciple reliable believers who will teach others (2 Timothy 2:2).

• Test everything you hear: sermons, books, podcasts (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 John 4:1).

Our Source of Strength

• Depend on the Spirit

Zechariah 4:6—“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.”

• Rest in Christ’s victory

– “Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

• Remember the promised keeping power

– “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless…” (Jude 1:24-25)

Keep Pressing On

Fight for truth with humility, love, and unwavering confidence in the inerrant Word. Contend today, tomorrow, and until the Lord calls you home.
