1 Chronicles 4:22
Jokim, the men of Cozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and Jashubi-lehem. (These names are from ancient records.)
Jokim,

Jokim, meaning “Jehovah raises up,” belonged to the descendants of Shelah, the son of Judah. His place in the genealogy preserves the continuing line of Judah through families whose deeds and settlements were known to earlier generations.

Rut 4:18-22 Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez was the father…
Mat 1:3-4 Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar…

the men of Cozeba,

Cozeba was a Judahite town associated with Chezib, where Shelah was born (Genesis 38:5). Its inhabitants are remembered as part of Judah’s established clans and settlements in the land.

Gen 38:5 Then she gave birth to another son and named him Shelah…
Jos 15:44 Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah—nine cities…
Mic 1:14 Therefore, send farewell gifts to Moresheth-gath;…

and Joash and Saraph,

Joash and Saraph, meaning “Yahweh has given” and “burning” or “fiery,” were descendants of Judah whose names remained in the ancestral records. God’s purposes in preserving Judah’s line included not only kings such as David, but also households and leaders otherwise unknown to later history.

2Ki 11:2 But Jehosheba daughter of King Joram, the sister of Ahaziah…
2Sa 8:2 David also defeated the Moabites, made them lie down…

who ruled in Moab

Joash and Saraph exercised dominion in Moab at some point in Israel’s earlier history. Their rule shows that Judah’s influence extended beyond its allotted territory and recalls the changing relationship between Israel and Moab, a land connected with Ruth, David’s ancestry, and later conflict with Israel.

Rut 1:1-2 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine…
2Ki 3:4-5 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder…
Isa 15:1-5 This is the burden against Moab: Ar in Moab is ruined…

and Jashubi-lehem.

Jashubi-lehem (“return to Bethlehem”) appears to have been another ancestral name or family designation connected with the Bethlehem region. Bethlehem stood within Judah’s inheritance and would later become the city of David and the birthplace of the Messiah.

Mic 5:2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are small…
Rut 1:19 So Naomi and Ruth traveled until they came to Bethlehem.…
1Sa 16:1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, How long are you going to mourn…

(These names are from ancient records.)

The Chronicler drew upon records preserving the memory of Judah’s families and their accomplishments. The genealogies testify that God faithfully maintained the tribe from which He had promised to bring the royal line and, ultimately, Jesus Christ.

Connections to Other Scriptures
The mention of Moab connects to the account of Ruth, a Moabite woman who became an ancestor of King David, highlighting the complex relationship between Israel and Moab.

The genealogical records in 1 Chronicles parallel those in the book of Genesis, emphasizing the importance of lineage and heritage in Israel's history.

The theme of ruling in foreign lands can be connected to Joseph's account in Egypt, where he rose to power in a foreign nation.

The Ark among the Flags
'And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 3. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. 4. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. 5. And the daughter of Pharaoh came

Chronicles
The comparative indifference with which Chronicles is regarded in modern times by all but professional scholars seems to have been shared by the ancient Jewish church. Though written by the same hand as wrote Ezra-Nehemiah, and forming, together with these books, a continuous history of Judah, it is placed after them in the Hebrew Bible, of which it forms the concluding book; and this no doubt points to the fact that it attained canonical distinction later than they. Nor is this unnatural. The book
