The concept of the glory of Jesus is a central theme in Christian theology, reflecting His divine nature, His role in salvation, and His ultimate authority. The glory of Jesus is multifaceted, encompassing His pre-incarnate existence, His earthly ministry, His resurrection and ascension, and His future return.

Pre-Incarnate Glory

Before His incarnation, Jesus existed in a state of divine glory with the Father. The Gospel of John emphasizes this pre-incarnate glory, as Jesus prays, "And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed" (John 17:5). This passage highlights the eternal nature of Christ and His shared glory with the Father, underscoring His divinity and pre-existence.

Glory in the Incarnation

The incarnation of Jesus is a profound manifestation of divine glory. John 1:14 states, "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth" . In His earthly life, Jesus revealed the glory of God through His teachings, miracles, and perfect obedience to the Father. His transfiguration, as recorded in Matthew 17:2, further revealed His divine glory: "There He was transfigured before them. This exaltation is described in Philippians 2:9-11: "Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" . In His ascended state, Jesus continues to manifest His glory as the sovereign Lord and intercessor for believers.

Future Glory

The future return of Jesus will be a climactic revelation of His glory. Scripture promises that He will return in power and great glory, as described in Matthew 24:30: "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory" . This future event will consummate His kingdom and establish His eternal reign, where His glory will be fully revealed and acknowledged by all creation.

Theological Implications

The glory of Jesus is not only a testament to His divine nature but also a source of hope and transformation for believers. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18, "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit" . Believers are called to reflect and participate in the glory of Christ, living lives that honor and magnify His name.
