The Kings Defeated East of the Jordan 1Now these are the kings of the land whom the Israelites (God prevails) struck down and whose lands they took beyond the Jordan (flowing down) to the east, from the Arnon (rushing stream) Valley to Mount Hermon (a sanctuary), including all the Arabah eastward: 2Sihon (warrior) king of the Amorites (sayers), who lived in Heshbon (stronghold). He ruled from Aroer (ruins) on the rim of the Arnon (rushing stream) Valley, along the middle of the valley, up to the Jabbok (emptying) River (the border of the Ammonites (tribal)), that is, half of Gilead (rocky region), 3as well as the Arabah east of the Sea of Chinnereth (the Sea of Galilee)a to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea (the Dead Sea)b), eastward through Beth-jeshimoth (house of the desolation), and southward below the slopes of Pisgah (cleft). 4And Og (long-necked) king of Bashan [And the territory of Og king of Bashan],c one of the remnant of the Rephaim, who lived in Ashtaroth (star) and Edrei (good pasture). 5He ruled over Mount Hermon (a sanctuary), Salecah (migration), all of Bashan (fruitful) up to the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites (she has pressed), and half of Gilead (rocky region) to the border of Sihon (warrior) king of Heshbon (stronghold). 6Moses (drawn out), the servant of the LORD {YHWH}, and the Israelites (God prevails) had struck them down and given their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites (a troop / fortune), and the half-tribe of Manasseh (causing to forget).
