The Day of Yahweh
(Zephaniah 1:7–18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11; 2 Peter 3:8–13)

1  כִּֽי־ (For), הִנֵּ֤ה (behold), הַיּוֹם֙ (the day) בָּ֔א (is coming), בֹּעֵ֖ר (burning) כַּתַּנּ֑וּר (like a furnace); וְהָי֨וּ (and will be) כָל־ (all) זֵדִ֜ים (the proud), וְכָל־ (and all) עֹשֵׂ֤ה (those doing) רִשְׁעָה֙ (wickedness), קַ֔שׁ (as stubble); וְלִהַ֨ט (and will burn up) אֹתָ֜ם (them) הַיּ֣וֹם (the day) הַבָּ֗א (that is coming) אָמַר֙ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts), אֲשֶׁ֛ר (So that) לֹא־ (not) יַעֲזֹ֥ב (will will it leave) לָהֶ֖ם (for them) שֹׁ֥רֶשׁ (a root) וְעָנָֽף׃ (or branch).

2  וְזָרְחָ֨ה (And will arise) לָכֶ֜ם (for you⁺) יִרְאֵ֤י (who fear) שְׁמִי֙ (My name) שֶׁ֣מֶשׁ (the sun) צְדָקָ֔ה (of righteousness) וּמַרְפֵּ֖א (and with healing) בִּכְנָפֶ֑יהָ (in its wings); וִֽיצָאתֶ֥ם (and you⁺ will go forth), וּפִשְׁתֶּ֖ם (and you⁺ will leap) כְּעֶגְלֵ֥י (like calves) מַרְבֵּֽק׃ (from the stall). 3  וְעַסּוֹתֶ֣ם (And you⁺ will trample) רְשָׁעִ֔ים (the wicked); כִּֽי־ (for) יִהְי֣וּ (they will be) אֵ֔פֶר (ashes) תַּ֖חַת (under) כַּפּ֣וֹת (the soles) רַגְלֵיכֶ֑ם (of your⁺ feet) בַּיּוֹם֙ (on the day) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) אֲנִ֣י (I) עֹשֶׂ֔ה (am preparing) אָמַ֖ר (says) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָאֽוֹת׃פ (Hosts).

4  זִכְר֕וּ (Remember) תּוֹרַ֖ת (the Law) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (of Moses) עַבְדִּ֑י (My servant), אֲשֶׁר֩ (that) צִוִּ֨יתִי (I commanded) אוֹת֤וֹ (him) בְחֹרֵב֙ (on Horeb) עַל־ (for) כָּל־ (all) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel), חֻקִּ֖ים (the statutes) וּמִשְׁפָּטִֽים׃ (and ordinances).

5  הִנֵּ֤ה (Behold), אָֽנֹכִי֙ (I) שֹׁלֵ֣חַ (am sending) לָכֶ֔ם (to you⁺) אֵ֖ת (-) אֵלִיָּ֣ה (Elijah) הַנָּבִ֑יא (the prophet) לִפְנֵ֗י (before the face of) בּ֚וֹא (the coming) י֣וֹם (of the day) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) הַגָּד֖וֹל (the great) וְהַנּוֹרָֽא׃ (and awesome). 6  וְהֵשִׁ֤יב (And he will turn) לֵב־ (the heart) אָבוֹת֙ (of the fathers) עַל־ (to) בָּנִ֔ים (the sons), וְלֵ֥ב (and the heart) בָּנִ֖ים (of sons) עַל־ (to) אֲבוֹתָ֑ם (their fathers), פֶּן־ (lest) אָב֕וֹא (I come) וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י (and strike) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the land) חֵֽרֶם׃ (with a curse).
