Save Me by Your Name
(1 Samuel 23:7–29)

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ (For the one directing). בִּנְגִינֹ֗ת (With stringed instruments), מַשְׂכִּ֥יל (a Maskil) לְדָוִֽד׃ (of David), בְּב֣וֹא (at the coming) הַ֭זִּיפִים (of the Ziphites), וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ (when they said) לְשָׁא֑וּל (to Saul), הֲלֹ֥א (Is not) דָ֝וִ֗ד (David) מִסְתַּתֵּ֥ר (hiding himself) עִמָּֽנוּ׃ (with us)?

1אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), בְּשִׁמְךָ֣ (by Your name) הוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נִי (save me),

וּבִגְבוּרָתְךָ֥ (and by Your might) תְדִינֵֽנִי׃ (defend me).

2  אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), שְׁמַ֣ע (hear) תְּפִלָּתִ֑י (my prayer),

הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינָה (give ear) לְאִמְרֵי־ (to the words) פִֽי׃ (of my mouth).

3  כִּ֤י (For) זָרִ֨ים׀ (strangers) קָ֤מוּ (have risen up) עָלַ֗י (against me)

וְֽ֭עָרִיצִים (and terrible ones) בִּקְשׁ֣וּ (have sought) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul);

לֹ֤א (not) שָׂ֨מוּ (they have set) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) לְנֶגְדָּ֣ם (before them).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

4  הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), אֱ֭לֹהִים (God is) עֹזֵ֣ר (the one giving help) לִ֑י (to me);

אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י (the Lord is) בְּֽסֹמְכֵ֥י (with those upholding) נַפְשִֽׁי׃ (my soul).

5  יָשׁוֹב (He will return) הָ֭רַע (the evil) לְשֹׁרְרָ֑י (to my enemies);

בַּ֝אֲמִתְּךָ֗ (in Your faithfulness) הַצְמִיתֵֽם׃ (put an end to them).

6  בִּנְדָבָ֥ה (With a freewill offering) אֶזְבְּחָה־ (I will sacrifice) לָּ֑ךְ (to You);

א֤וֹדֶה (I will give thanks to) שִּׁמְךָ֖ (Your name), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), כִּי־ (for) טֽוֹב׃ (it is good).

7  כִּ֣י (For) מִכָּל־ (from all) צָ֭רָה (distress) הִצִּילָ֑נִי (He has delivered me),

וּ֝בְאֹיְבַ֗י (and on my enemies) רָאֲתָ֥ה (has looked) עֵינִֽי׃ (my eye).
