The Vision of the Measuring Line
(Ezekiel 40:1–4)

1  וָאֶשָּׂ֥א (And I raised) עֵינַ֛י (my eyes) וָאֵ֖רֶא (and looked), וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold) אִ֑ישׁ (a man) וּבְיָד֖וֹ (and in his hand) חֶ֥בֶל (was a line) מִדָּֽה׃ (for measuring).

2  וָאֹמַ֕ר (And I said) אָ֖נָה (Where are) אַתָּ֣ה (you)? הֹלֵ֑ךְ (Going)

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and he said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) לָמֹד֙ (To measure) אֶת־ (-) יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (Jerusalem), לִרְא֥וֹת (to see) כַּמָּֽה־ (what is) רָחְבָּ֖הּ (its width) וְכַמָּ֥ה (and what is) אָרְכָּֽהּ׃ (its length).

3  וְהִנֵּ֗ה (And behold), הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ (the angel) הַדֹּבֵ֥ר (who was speaking) בִּ֖י (with me) יֹצֵ֑א (went forth), וּמַלְאָ֣ךְ (and angel) אַחֵ֔ר (another) יֹצֵ֖א (was coming out) לִקְרָאתֽוֹ׃ (to meet him). 4  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And he said) אֵלָ֔ו (to him) רֻ֗ץ (Run), דַּבֵּ֛ר (speak) אֶל־ (to) הַנַּ֥עַר (the young man), הַלָּ֖ז (this) לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), פְּרָזוֹת֙ (In the open country) תֵּשֵׁ֣ב (will sit) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם (Jerusalem) מֵרֹ֥ב (because of the multitude) אָדָ֛ם (of men) וּבְהֵמָ֖ה (and livestock) בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃ (in her midst); 5  וַאֲנִ֤י (and I), אֶֽהְיֶה־ (will be) לָּהּ֙ (unto her) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) ח֥וֹמַת (a wall) אֵ֖שׁ (of fire) סָבִ֑יב (all around), וּלְכָב֖וֹד (and as glory) אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה (I will be) בְתוֹכָֽהּ׃פ (in her midst).

The Redemption of Zion
(Hosea 3:1–5)

6  ה֣וֹי (Up) ה֗וֹי (up), וְנֻ֛סוּ (and flee) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from the land) צָפ֖וֹן (of the north), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כִּ֠י (For) כְּאַרְבַּ֞ע (like the four) רוּח֧וֹת (winds) הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם (of the heavens), פֵּרַ֥שְׂתִּי (I have scattered) אֶתְכֶ֖ם (you⁺) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 7  ה֥וֹי (Up) צִיּ֖וֹן (O Zion), הִמָּלְטִ֑י (Escape), יוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת (you who are dwelling) בַּת־ (with the daughter) בָּבֶֽל׃ס (of Babylon).

8  כִּ֣י (For) כֹ֣ה (thus) אָמַר֮ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֒ (Hosts); אַחַ֣ר (After) כָּב֔וֹד (His Glory) שְׁלָחַ֕נִי (sent me) אֶל־ (to) הַגּוֹיִ֖ם (the nations) הַשֹּׁלְלִ֣ים (who are plundering) אֶתְכֶ֑ם (you⁺) כִּ֚י (for) הַנֹּגֵ֣עַ (the one touching) בָּכֶ֔ם (you⁺) נֹגֵ֖עַ (is touching) בְּבָבַ֥ת (the apple) עֵינֽוֹ׃ (of His eye). 9  כִּ֠י (For), הִנְנִ֨י (behold, I) מֵנִ֤יף (I am waving) אֶת־ (-) יָדִי֙ (My hand) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (against them) וְהָי֥וּ (and they will become) שָׁלָ֖ל (plunder) לְעַבְדֵיהֶ֑ם (for their own servants); וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם (and you⁺ will know) כִּֽי־ (that) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) שְׁלָחָֽנִי׃ס (has sent me).

10  רָנִּ֥י (Sing out) וְשִׂמְחִ֖י (and be glad), בַּת־ (O daughter) צִיּ֑וֹן (of Zion); כִּ֧י (For), הִנְנִי־ (behold) בָ֛א (I am coming), וְשָׁכַנְתִּ֥י (and I will dwell) בְתוֹכֵ֖ךְ (in your midst) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 11  וְנִלְווּ֩ (And will be joined) גוֹיִ֨ם (nations) רַבִּ֤ים (many) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day), הַה֔וּא (that) וְהָ֥יוּ (and they will become) לִ֖י (My) לְעָ֑ם (people). וְשָׁכַנְתִּ֣י (And I will dwell) בְתוֹכֵ֔ךְ (in your midst) וְיָדַ֕עַתְּ (and you will know) כִּי־ (that) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) שְׁלָחַ֥נִי (has sent me) אֵלָֽיִךְ׃ (to you). 12  וְנָחַ֨ל (And will inherit) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) יְהוּדָה֙ (Judah) חֶלְק֔וֹ (as His portion) עַ֖ל (upon) אַדְמַ֣ת (the land), הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ (of Holiness) וּבָחַ֥ר (and He will choose) ע֖וֹד (again) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (Jerusalem). 13  הַ֥ס (Be silent), כָּל־ (all) בָּשָׂ֖ר (flesh), מִפְּנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH); כִּ֥י (for) נֵע֖וֹר (He has roused Himself) מִמְּע֥וֹן (from the abode) קָדְשֽׁוֹ׃ס (of His holiness).
