In My Father’s House Are Many Rooms

1“ Let not your⁺ heart be troubled. You⁺ believe in God;† believe also in Me. 2In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. And if not so, would I have told you⁺ that I am going to prepare a place for you⁺?† 3And if I go and prepare a place for you⁺,† I am coming again, and I will receive you⁺ to Myself, so that where I am, you⁺ may be also. 4And you⁺ know the way to where I am going.”†

The Way, the Truth, and the Life

5Thomas says to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how can we know the way?”

6Jesus says to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father if not through Me. 7If you⁺ had known Me, you⁺ would also have known My Father. From now, you⁺ know Him and have seen Him.”

8Philip says to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”

9Jesus says to him, “Am I with you⁺ so long a time, and you have not known Me, Philip? The one having seen Me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I speak to you⁺, I do not speak from Myself; but the Father dwelling in Me does His works. 11Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; but if not, believe† because of the works themselves.

12Truly, truly, I say to you⁺, the one believing in Me, the works that I do, also he will do. And he will do greater than these, because I am going to the Father.† 13And whatever you⁺ might ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you⁺ ask Me† anything in My name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
(John 16:5–16)

15If you⁺ love Me, you⁺ will keep† My commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and He will give you⁺ another Advocate† so that He may be† with you⁺ to the age— 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not see Him, nor does it know Him. But you⁺ know Him, for He abides with you⁺ and will be in you⁺.†

18I will not leave you⁺ as orphans; I am coming to you⁺. 19Yet a little while, and the world sees Me no more, but you⁺ see Me. Because I live, you⁺ also will live. 20In that day you⁺ will know that I am in My Father, and you⁺ in Me, and I in you⁺. 21The one having My commandments and keeping them, he is the one loving Me. Now the one loving Me will be loved by My Father, And I will love him and will show Myself to him.”

22Judas (not Iscariot) says to Him, “Lord, then what has occurred that You are about to manifest Yourself to us and not to the world?”

23Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and will make a home with him. 24The one not loving Me does not keep My words. And the word that you⁺ hear is not Mine, but that of the Father having sent Me.

25These things I have said to you⁺ while remaining with you⁺. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you⁺ all things and will remind you⁺ of all things that I said to you⁺.

Peace I Leave with You

27Peace I leave with you⁺; My peace I give to you⁺. Not as the world gives do I give to you⁺. Let not your⁺ heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. 28You⁺ heard that I said to you⁺, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you⁺.’ If you⁺ loved Me, you⁺ would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father† is greater than I. 29And now I have told you⁺ before it comes to pass, so that when it shall have come to pass, you⁺ may believe.

30No longer will I speak much with you⁺; for the ruler of the world† comes, and in Me he has nothing. 31But so that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded Me, thus I do.
