O thoughtless (senseless, latin-insensati, not understanding, without- to think) Galatians! Who has bewitched (spellbound, fascinate, exercise evil power over someone as putting under a spell, latin-fascinavit) you not to be persuaded of the truth before whose eyes Jesus Christ was previously written (previously portrayed) as having been crucified?
Only this I wish to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit from out of the works of law or from out of hearing faith?
Are you so thoughtless (senseless, foolish, not understanding)? Having begun in the Spirit, now are you being consummated (completed, perfected, latin- consummamini) in the flesh?
Did you suffer so many things in vain, if really in vain?
Therefore, the One lavishly supplying the Spirit to you and working miracles among you, is it from out of works of law or from out of hearing faith? 6Just as Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him unto righteousness (justice). 7Know then that those from out of faith, these are the sons of Abraham. 8And the Scripture having foreseen that from out of faith God justifies the ethnicities, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham saying, “In you all the ethnicities will be blessed.” 9So then those from out of faith are blessed along with the believing Abraham. 10For as many as are from out of works of law are under a curse. For it has been written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue (remain, abide, latin- permanserit) in all things having been written in the book of the law- to do them.” 11Now it is clear (evident, certain) that no one is justified in the law before God, because the righteous (just) will live from out of faith. 12And the law is not from out of faith, but rather, “The one having done these things will live in them.” 13Christ redeemed (taking full advantage of a buying-opportunity) us from out of the curse of the law, having become on behalf of us a curse, since it has been written, “Cursed is everyone hanging upon anything made of wood.” 14So that unto the ethnicities the blessing of Abraham may come in Jesus Christ, so that we may receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15Brothers, I am speaking according to man, even a man’s covenant having been ratified (validated, confirmed), no one does away with (sets aside) or adds additions thereto. 16Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his offspring. He does not say, “And to offsprings, ” as upon many, but rather as upon one, “And to your offspring, which is Christ. 17And this I say, the covenant having been ratified (validated, confirmed) beforehand by (under) God, the law, having come four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul (make of no effect, cancel, revoke), so as to nullify (abolish, render inoperative, bring to naught) the promise. 18For if the inheritance is from out of the law, it is no longer from out of a promise: however God has graced (graciously- freely given) it to Abraham through a promise. 19Why then the law? It was added for the sake of transgressions (violations), until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, having been thoroughly set in order (ordained, appointed, latin-ordinata) through angels in the hand of a mediator. 20Now a mediator is not of one, however God is one. 21Is the law then contrary to (against) the promises of God? May it never be! For if the law had been given being able to make alive, then righteousness (justice) would have really been from out of the law. 22But rather the Scripture shut up together all things under (by) sin, so that the promise from out of faith in Jesus Christ may be given to those believing. 23Now before faith came, we were kept under guard (keep watch like a military sentinel) under (by) law having been shut up together unto the faith about to be revealed. 24So then, the law has been our guardian tutor (legally appointed childhood overseer, a child overseer placed for development by strict instruction, guardian, latin-pedagogus) unto Christ, so that from out of faith we may be justified. 25However faith having come, we are no longer under a guardian tutor. 26For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many as were baptized unto Christ, you have put on (clothe) Christ. (of note- they enduo not epiduo) 28There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither bond slave nor free; there is neither male and female; for all you are one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. |
