‘Sir,’ the servant replied,

The servant reports to his master with the respect expected of a household servant. He represents those entrusted with carrying out the master’s command.

The invitations to the poor, crippled, blind, and lame have been extended as commanded. The servant’s obedience contrasts with the earlier guests who refused the master’s invitation.

(22) It is done as thou hast commanded.--Literally, What thou didst command is come to pass.

Verse 22. - And the servant maid, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. While these words are necessary to complete the picture, still in them we have a hint of the vast size of the kingdom of God. The realms of the blessed are practically boundless. Here, again, in the first instance, there was a Jewish instruction intended to correct the false current notion that that kingdom was narrow in extent, and intended to be confined to the chosen race of Israel. It is very different in the Lord's picture.

Luke 14:22 shows a respectful servant reporting complete obedience while revealing God’s generous heart. The authority of the Master is honored, the servant’s accountability is clear, the task assigned has been faithfully carried out, and yet the invitation remains open because the kingdom still has room. God’s house is not full until every seat is taken, and He calls His servants—then and now—to keep inviting until it is.
